 A half-wave rectifier circuit employing an SCR is adjusted to have a gate

current of 1mA. The forward breakdown voltage of SCR is 120 V for Ig =

lmA. If a sinusoidal voltage of 300V peak is applied, find the:
(i) firing angle
(ii) conduction angle
(iii) average current.
Assume load resistance - 120Ω and the holding current to be zero

(i) 𝑣 = 𝑉𝑚 sin 𝜃
Here, v = 120V, Vm = 300V

120=300sin 𝜃 ; sin 𝜃 = = 0.4

𝜃 = sin−1 0.4 = 23.58° therefore firing angle, 𝛼= 𝜃=23.58°

(ii) Conduction angle, ɸ = 180-𝛼 =180-23.58° =156.42°

Average voltage = 𝑚 (1 + cos 𝜃)

 Gate current, IG
 Anode current, IA
 What is the state of the SCR if VA is reduced to 13V?
(i) Applying KVL to bottom left loop with SW1 closed;
