(ii) 71 -2 - 31 _____<______ 71 - 2 +31
(iii) 39 + (-35) – (58) _<__________ 37 + (-11) - (+26)
(iv) 23 + (-8) - 7 ____=________ 9 - 13 + 12

2.  Fill in the blanks

a) (−35) × .-1.. = 35
b) (−53) × (.1..) = −53
c) (−14) × (.-16..) = (−16) × (−14)
d) (−21) × (.21..) = 0
e) (−119) ÷ 17 = (.-7..)
f) (−247) ÷ (.-19..) = 13
g) (.-31..) ÷ 31 = 0
h) (.152..) ÷ (−19) = −8
3.  What must be subtracted from (−7) to obtain (−15)? ANS : (-7) - (+8)
= (-7) (-8) = (-15)
4.
Find the value of:
(i) 1487 × 327 + (-487) × 327  = 327 x [1487 - (-487) ] = 327 x [1487 -
487] = 327 x [1000] = 327000
(ii) 28945 × 99 – (-28945) =  28945 x 99 + 28945 x 1 = 28945 x (99 +
1) = 28945 x (100) = 2894500
5.  Starting from (-7) × 4, find (-7) × (-3) = -7 x 4 = -28, -7 x 3 = -21, -7 x
2 = -14, -7 x 1 = -7, -7 x 0 = 0, -7 x (-1) = 7, -7 x (-2) = 14, -7 x (-3) =
21
6.  The sum of two integers is 116. If one of them is -79, find the other
integers.
ANS : 195 + (-79) = 116
7.  Write five pair of integers (m, n) such that m ÷ n = ˗3.
ANS : 9 ÷ (-3) = -3, (-6) ÷ 2 = -3, 12 ÷ (-4) = -3, (-15) ÷ 5 = -3, 3 ÷ (-1)
= -3
8.  If a = -35, b = 10 cm and c = -5, verify that:
(i) a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c = L.H.S = -35 + [ 10 + (-5) ] = -35 + 5 = -30
R.H.S = [ (-35) + 10 ] + (-5) = (-25) + (-5) = -30. L.H.S = R.H.S.
Hence verified.
(ii) a × (b + c) = a × b + a × c= L.H.S = -35 x [ 10 + (-5) ] = -35 x 5 = -
175.
R.H.S = -35 x 10 + (-35) x (-5) = -350 + 175 = -175. L.H.S = R.H.S.
Hence verified.
9.  Write down a pair of integers whose
(i) sum is -5 - (-7) + 2 = -5
(ii) difference is -7  - (-14) - 7 = -7
(iii) difference is -1 - (-2) - 1 = -1
(iv) sum is 0 - 1 + (-1) = 0

10.   Find the value of each of the following products.

a) (-3) ×15 = -45
b) 4 ×(-10) = -40
c) (-3)× (-2) × 5 = -3 x (-2) = 6 x 5 = 30
d) 2 × (-8) ×(-1) = 2 x (-8) = -16 x (-1) = 16
e) (-8) ×(-4) ×0 ×(-6) ×(-8)  = 0
Verify the following:
a) (-5) ×[ (-7) + (-5)] = [ (-5) ×(-7)] + [ (-5) ×(-5)] = L.H.S = (-5) x [ (-7)
+ (-5) ] = (-5) x (-12) = 60. R.H.S = [ (-5) x (-7) ] + [ (-5) x (-5) ] = 35 +
25 = 60. L.H.S = R.H.S. Hence verified.
b) (-7) ×[(-8) + 9] = [-7 ×(-8)] + [(-7) ×9] = L.H.S = (-7) x [(-8) +  9] =
(-7) x 1 = (-7). R.H.S = [-7 x (-8)] + [(-7) x 9] = 56 + (-63) = (-7). L.H.S
= R.H.S. Hence verified.
