SPEAKING MODEL
You are going to learn how to use want to, would like to, and would prefer to. You are also
going to learn how to give reasons. You are then going to use these skills to describe your
dream job.

BRAINSTORM
You are going to talk about your dream job. Think of jobs you’d like to do someday.

PLAN
What is your dream job? Write it in the word web. Then complete the rest of the word web with
notes.

SPEAK (practice)
Work with a partner. Take turns to talk about your dream job. Pay attention to your use of want
to, would like to, and would prefer to, vocabulary to describe jobs, and the reasons why this is
your dream job.

SPEAK (presentation)
Give a short presentation about your dream job. Apply the Presentation Skills studied in class
(introducing yourself, using effective body language, thanking the audience). During the
presentation, your camera will be on, and you will have to stand up. The presentation will last
about 2 minutes.

REFLECT
Think about these questions.
1. Was it easy to describe your dream job?
2. After hearing about other people’s dream jobs, would you like to change anything
about yours?

like, and be like. You are then going to use these skills to write about a job you would like to
have.

BRAINSTORM

PLAN
Plan a paragraph describing what job you’d like to have. Look back at your brainstorm and
include some of the answers to the questions. Look at the writing model above.

WRITE
Write a paragraph. Support your paragraph by giving reasons. Pay attention to your use of like
and would like. Your paragraph should be about 100 words. Your paragraph should include
simple sentences, compound sentences, and the coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or).

SHARE
Exchange your paragraph with a partner. Highlight three things in the text you like. Annotate the
text by writing a question for your partner to answer.

REWRITE AND EDIT


Consider your partner’s question and rewrite your paragraph.
