Reflection
Expectations & Creating Vocabulary

I am not at all surprised by the words since I also am guilty of using some of

these words. I am surrounded by the use of these words at work where I even hear

elementary students using these words at times and I also hear the the use of

these words with cousins and friends.

I believe teenagers or any group of people who spend a lot of time together

start to create their own set of vocab because it will be theirs and it brings them

closer together. It is a way of having fun with words and making something your

own.

Comparison & Connections

When looking back and even today, language creation is part of everyday life. I

definitely engaged with language creation when I was younger and I still do to this

present day. Personally I feel that it is part of my sense of humor and I will always

engage in this practice. When comparing to that of teens and even younger I see it

as having fun and creating something and being able to share it with others. It is

almost as though a group of individuals creating their very own language that only

they understand.

Future Application

In the classroom it is necessary for teachers to understand the current

language of students. This is important for not only classroom management but

also it can be used as an advantage for the teacher. Using appropriate language in

the classroom is necessary and building a welcoming environment where students

feel part of something is also important. Being up to date with new language is

necessary to connect, understand, and at times discipline students. New language

is always going to appear, teachers need to stay up to date as things are always

evolving.
