PLANTING RICE (FERNANDO AMORSOLO)

Planting Rice,’ one of Fernando Amorsolo’s famous paintings, was painted

in 1922, and now is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.
It is known that Amorsolo was committed to two fundamental ideas in his art
a classical notion of idealism, in which artistic truth was found through
harmony, balance, and beauty, and a conservative concept of Filipino
national character as rooted in rural communities and the cycles of village
life. The painting depicts farmers working in the heat of the sun, planting
rice in the fields. It also shows that farmer uses carabao and plows as a
tool in farming. The farmers are surrounded by trees and mountains. Based
on their clothing, it depicts a provincial setting in which they wear traditional
farming clothes, particularly skirts, and a buri hat to protect their heads
from the hot sun. The painting also depicts that planting rice is genderless.
The visual is light because the colors used in nature were mostly pastel.
Despite the fact that rice planting is a laborious task, the painting made it
look like a simple work, serene and blissful. The painting is also set in a
landscape element. This painting falls under the classification of painting as
Genre painting since its content depicts the contemporary life of the Filipino
farmers in 1951. Apart from being a genre painting, the painting’s particular
genre can also be classified as realism as the details painted can be seen
as something that might look like in real life

DALAGANG BUKID (FERNANDO AMORSOLO)

The "Dalagang Bukid" is a maiden in the paddy field. It is an ideal Filipina

beauty with a sense of Maria Clara who views herself as a happy and
positive lady despite the difficulties she faces working in an agricultural
plain. Fernando Amorsolo's painting style is oil painting. Amorsolo painted
with natural light and invented the backlighting technique Chiaroscuro,
which became his artistic trademark and his most significant contribution to
Philippine painting. Figures are outlined against a distinctive glow in a
typical Amorsolo painting, and intense light on one part of the canvas
highlights nearby details. As you can see in the painting, the colors used
are vibrant and bright with shades of green, yellow, and brown with a bright
sunlight-like effect which portrays our country during those days. Our
motherland used to be earthy, clean, and fresh. The painting emphasizes
true Filipina beauty, a"Morena" with a conservative traditional outfit, "Baro't
Saya", a bandana used to shield her from the sun's rays, and a "Banga"
that most likely represents the lady's fragility and innocence.Amorsolo's
styles and details are meticulous, highlighting the lady's eyes, face, and
features, as well as the clothes she wears. Using a thin and small
brushstroke, the painting becomes more delicate, particularly in the
background. The lady is said to be Amorsolo's ideal type of girl, giving an
impression of agricultural-dependent life and economic activity in the
Philippines during World War II.

SPOLIARIUM (JUNA LUNA)

The formal elements that are hooked up in the portray are lines, light,
shape, and time. Lines can be evident in the portray using way of the
performance of the traces on the flooring and the implied traces that are
made thru our bodies in the painting. Light is being used appropriately due
to the truth that the artist used unnatural light to paint the darkness of the
room. The human beings in the portrait to signify the shapes and time are
analyzed to the truth we comprehend that this characterizes the
masterpiece that used to be made to show off the historic times. The
principles of the painting are proportion and unity. Proportion is noticeable
due to the fact that we can see that artists have painted the people in the
painting in a detailed and extremely realistic form that is modified in any
way. Unity is proven because all of the components in the painting unify
with each other to make a statement, meaning, message, and
communication to the nation. The center of Luna's painting is fallen
gladiators being dragged by Roman soldiers. At the left are the gamblers,
enthusiastically awaiting their chance to strip off the fighters their metal
helmets and another armory. And the right symbolizes a depressing mood,
an old man carries a torch searching for his son while the woman weeps
through the tragedy of her loved one. Spoliarium is emphasized the
violation of human rights towards the colonizers of Spain and Juan Luna
expressed his patriotism through it.
