Integrative learning is the process of combining different learning experiences to form a cohesive

understanding of a subject. It is the art of bringing together different perspectives, ideas, and concepts
to create a more comprehensive understanding of a problem. Integrative learning helps us become
better problem solvers by using our skills and knowledge from multiple disciplines to solve complex
issues. As a growing engineer my goal is to improve my ability to integrate knowledge to solve problems
for future assignments. This semester, I have had the opportunity to work on various projects that have
allowed me to develop my integrative learning skills, including a university seminar on the ethics of
engineering and church volunteering service. I would rate my overall problem-solving skills as
"Progressing."

Through my experiences this semester, I have learned that integrative learning is crucial for
problem-solving and has allowed me to develop a better understanding of how to solve complex issues. I
believe that my ability to integrate learning to solve problems has significantly improved this semester,
but there is still room for growth.

The first piece of evidence of my integrative learning skills comes from a university seminar on
the ethics of engineering. In the seminar, we discussed the moral and ethical implications of different
engineering projects and their impact on society. I remembered some of the concepts I learned in my
philosophy class and applied them to the discussions. I also drew on my critical thinking skills to evaluate
different perspectives and come up with solutions that are ethically responsible. This experience showed
me the importance of bringing together different disciplines to solve complex problems and how
integrative learning can lead to ethical and responsible solutions.

The second piece of evidence comes from my involvement in a church volunteering service. I
worked with a group of volunteers to organize a food drive for the homeless population in the
community. While planning the event, we faced various challenges such as finding a location, managing
resources, and communicating with volunteers. I remembered some of the concepts I learned in my
communication and leadership courses and applied them to the project. I also drew on my teamwork
skills and collaborated with other volunteers to come up with a plan that worked for everyone. This
experience showed me the importance of combining knowledge from different areas to solve real-world
problems and how integrative learning can lead to effective and compassionate solutions.

In conclusion, my experiences this semester have shown me the importance of integrative

learning in problem-solving. Through my work on various projects, including a university seminar on the
ethics of engineering and a church volunteering service, I have learned how to combine knowledge from
different disciplines to create innovative and compassionate solutions. I believe that my ability to
integrate learning to solve problems has significantly improved this semester, but there is still room for
growth. As engineer student attending A&M Corpus Christi, I will continue to learn and improve my
integrative learning skills to better my community.
