1. Women suffer from depression twice as often as men do according to various studies. This extraordinary

tolerate tiredness, stress and loneliness associated with bringing up children, however, the higher suicide rate

feelings in the form of depression, while men are more likely to get addicted to alcohol, drugs or violent crimes.

XVII. My name is Debra Love and I am a second-generation native of Los Angeles, a city (1) ___________ lies on

observed the changes that have taken place throughout the years.

beginning of this century, Los Angeles was a sleepy little town, and even as recently as the 1950s and the
early 1960s, there were farms and orchards close to our house. (4) ___________, there were gardens
where you could find an incredible variety of exotic plants and shrubs. By the time I (5) ___________
twelve, our neighbourhood had been surrounded by a forest which was burnt down by a fire. Of course,

trains. The air was usually very clear, and (7) ___________ a young child, I could see the mountains to the
north and east almost every day.
