We discuss 10 K-Dramas like

Alchemy of Souls you must watch.
Add these shows to your watch list.

The first season of this romantic

fantasy drama has pleased many
fans on Netflix. The streaming
platform has always been able to
expand its projects to many
countries and cover many
genres. Alchemy of Souls has the
fate of two people who become
twisted due to the soul of the dead
who returns to the living.

If you’re a fan of casting spells and

true romance, then this is a series
that is worth watching. The
characters are always trying to help
each other because of their twisted
fate with the undead. Along with
romance and magic, there is always
betrayal to try and stop good things
from happening to the two lovers.

The reason why romance and

fantasy work so well together is
because of the magic that happens
between the two. Even if it’s
farfetched, the love is still shown, and
that connection is important.

The series on this list are all Korean

dramas that have surprised
audiences with how good the
storytelling is. There’s a nice balance
between both genres, and of course,
the actors who play these characters
have strong chemistry to keep the
audience interested.

Alchemy of Souls
you must watch
Tale of the Nine-Tailed
(2020)
An urban dark fantasy drama about
a gumiho who settles into the city
and a producer who is after it. What
Leon does is live his life in human
form to keep searching for a
reincarnation of his lost love and he
fights off other supernatural beings
who threaten his world. The series
explores love and loss, with a
fantastical journey added into the
mix.

The King: Eternal

Monarch (2020)
A modern-day Korean emperor
passes through a mysterious portal
and into a parallel world, where he
encounters a feisty police detective.
Walking through any mysterious
portal can bring forth some
obstacles and change the way
anyone perceives their life. This is
what happens to the emperor,
especially after he meets the police
detective. Since he used to have
women fawning over him, he gets
the opposite with the police
detective.

The King: Eternal Monar…

Jinxed at First (2022)

Seven years ago, Soo Gwang had a
perfectly normal, happy life but all
that changed when he happened
upon Seul Bi, a woman who, despite
their brief meeting, changed his life
forever. Since that day, every time he
dreams of Seul Bi, something terrible
happens to him. Sometimes people
can be linked to each other and in a
fantasy world, anything is possible.
To always think about someone and
then something terrible happens, just
means that Soo Gwang has to find
her again in some other life.

Lovers of the Red Sky

(2021)
Set during the Joseon era, Hong
Chun Gi is a female painter with
genius-like painting talent. She is
picked as the first female painter of
the Dohwaseo. For her, painting is
everything. One day, she meets Ha
Ram. When creative minds fall in
love, romance takes a mind of its
own and can be manipulated in our
minds. The love feels so much
stronger because of how imaginative
those with creative hearts can be.

Familiar Wife (2018)

A married couple suddenly finds
themselves living entirely different
lives after their fates magically
change through an unexpected
incident. Married couples do have to
fight to keep their relationship strong
and healthy. Sometimes it can get
difficult, but when their fate changes,
they realize that the life they used to
lead wasn’t that bad, to begin with.

A Korean Odyssey
(2017)
In 2017, Son Oh Gong and Ma Wang
are in conflict with each other, and
they look for a true light in a dark
world where evil exists everywhere.
This one is a more typical romance
and fantasy drama because of the
exploration of light and dark through
their love life. The light obviously does
conquer all and helps them through.

The Beauty Inside

(2018)
The series tells the love story of Han
Se Gye, an actress who must spend
one week out of each month living in
someone else’s body, and Seo Do
Jae, a man who suffers from
Prosopagnosia. This one has a very
interesting concept and highlights
the beauty standard in a different
way. While she’s in another body, she
also experiences love differently,
which changes her perspective on it.

Faith (2012)
When the queen-to-be of medieval
Korea is badly wounded, Captain
Choi Young uses a wormhole to
“heaven”, which is actually 21st
century South Korea, to bring back
the spoiled Dr. Yoo Eun-Soo who
becomes a pawn in a game of
human chess.  A wormhole to
heaven is a concept that would be
interesting, and this show explores
the link to another world that many
would want to know. It highlights
morality and the values people on
Earth are concerned about.

I Can Hear Your Voice

(2013)
The legal drama centers around
Jang Hye Sung, a brazen, sharp-
tongued female attorney who says
everything that comes to her mind
with no filter. When she gets to the
point in her career where it’s hard to
muster up any enthusiasm for her
work, she teams up with serious Cha
Kwan Woo, a passionate public
defender. The chemistry between the
two romantic leads is important but
the banter between them is even
more important. The banter and the
build-up of their romance can
almost be better than the two of
them ending up together.

The Bride of Habaek

(2017)

The Water God Habaek visits earth to

fulfill his mission with the help of his
servant in the human world, named
psychiatrist Yoon So Ah, whose
ancestors have promised to serve
The Water God for generations. She
doesn’t believe that he is a god and
mistakes him for a delusional patient.
The series explores blind faith and
how that can be problematic at
times, they even dive into the lore of
the Water God in a unique way.
