THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 14 cultural centres, each estimated

at Rs 40 crore and named after renowned leaders from Kerala's
renaissance era, would come up in all the districts in the state within two
years, said cultural affairs minister A K Balan.
"The centres, for which funds would be allocated from Kerala
infrastructure investment fund board (KIFBI), would comprise theatres,
galleries, seminar halls, stay facilities for artists during festivals and halls
for rehearsals among many other facilities. A sum of Rs 100 crore would
be spent for the ambitious project in the initial year and the project would
be completed in two years," the minister told a meet-the-press programme
here on Thursday.

The department, he said, is also planning to set up 100 cinema theatres in rural areas to facilitate 'wide release of films'. "It
could be a public-private venture with the support of local bodies. Hundred villages with 'urban nature' will be selected for the
project," he added. Balan said a detailed project report was being prepared for the 'film city' envisaged on the Chitranjali Studio
premises in the state capital. "The same 80-acre premise, where about 60 acres are now lying unutilized, is also being
considered to set up the proposed permanent venue for the International Film Festival Kerala, for which Rs 50 crore has been
earmarked in the state budget," he said.
The department has also initiated a statewide campaign to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Sree Narayan Guru's
proclamation on 'one caste, one religion', and the state-level inauguration will be held at the Senate Hall in Thiruvananthapuram
on September 21.
