License and installation

An unexpected error “No such feature exists. FLEXnet licensing error -5,21

License type: Network

Occurrence: On EMTP Opening.

When trying to open EMTP, it does not open and instead the following message pops up:

Solutions
- Make sure the EMTP version matches or is older than the network license. Otherwise you must
update your license. [more info]

- Make sure the server hostname in the license file is correct.Make sure the EMTP version matches

- Make sure the client license file matches the networks license file. [more info]

- Make sure the Client computer can access to the server hosting the EMTP-RV FlexLM license
manager. [more info]
Make sure the EMTP version matches or is older than the network license. Otherwise you must update
your license.
On the client machine:

- Open EMTP-RV
- On the welcome page, look at the version number. Ex: EMTPWorks 3.4

On the server, the EMTP-RV license server manager must be installed. If it is not the case, proceed
to the installation first.

- Go to EMTP License Server folder, i.e. the same folder as the “lmgrd.exe” application (by
default: C:\Program Files\EMTP License Server)
- Open the license file (.lic) and look at the EMTP-RV version number on the 4th line. It must be
the same as or newer than the EMTPWorks version.
- If it is not the case, proceed to the upgrade.
Make sure the server hostname in the license file is correct
On the server machine:

- Open the FlexLM license manager

- In the System Settings tab, take note of the Computer/Hostname:

- In the Config Services tab, look at the path to the license file.
- Go to the EMTP License Server folder found at the previous step. (by default: C:\Program
Files\EMTP License Server).
- Open the emtp_server_license.lic file.
- Make sure “YourServerName” from the Original network license has been replaced by the
server hostname or that the hostname already there is correct.
On the client machine:

- Preform the same verification. The license is located in

C:\ProgramData\Powersys\EMTPWorks X.X, X.X being the EMTP version number.
The license file of the client machine must be the same as the one on the server. If it is not
the case, update your client license.
Note: The ProgramData folder can be hidden. See instructions here to show hidden files.
Make sure the client license file matches the networks license file
The licenses on the server and client must be the same.

On the server machine:

- Go to the EMTP License Server folder, i.e. the same folder as the “lmgrd.exe” application (by
default: C:\Program Files\EMTP License Server)

On the client machine:

- Go to C:\ProgramData\Powersys\EMTPWorks X.X , X.X being the EMTP version number.

Note: The ProgramData folder can be hidden. See instructions here to show hidden files.

- The licenses at both location must be the same. If it is not the case, update your client license
with the server license.
Make sure the Client computer can access to the server hosting the EMTP-RV FlexLM license manager.
The client must be connected to the server in order to access the license file. Make sure the client
machine is connected to the server hosting the network license.

In some cases, the server firewall can restrict the license access.

In order to determine if the firewall blocks the client connection to the EMTP License Server, turn off
momentarily the Firewall of the server. If EMTP starts properly, the problem is from the firewall.

Solutions:
On server side:

- Remove restrictions of the TCP Inbound Ports 27000 to 27008 of EMTPWorks.

If theses ports are already being used by another application, change the assigned port used by
the FlexLM license manager:

- Specify the default port and add it to the firewall exceptions on the server.
- Add the port number to the SERVER line of the license

On the client side:

- The procedure used for the server can also be applied to the client if the client firewall
blocks the connection.
How to upgrade network license version
License type: Network
When an upgrade of EMTP-RV is installed, the license file of the server must be updated.

Solutions
If you do not have the new version license file yet, on the server:

- Go to the EMTP License Server folder, i.e. the same folder as the “lmgrd.exe” application (by
default: C:\Program Files\EMTP License Server)
- Sent the license file emtp_server_license.lic to support@emtp-software.com asking for an
upgrade.
Note: The process can be accelerated by using the Request license file/email activation
option of the EMTP Activation Utility.
- An new license file will be sent to you very shortly by e-mail.
- Go to the next step.

If you have the new version license file, on the server:

- Place the new license file emtp_server_license.lic in the EMTP License Server folder, i.e. the
same folder as the “lmgrd.exe” application (by default: C:\Program Files\EMTP License
Server).
- Run the FLEXlm License Manager Utility software (start > programs > EMTP License Server)
- Go to the Start/Stop/Reread tab and click on the Start Server button. Check the status
message at the bottom of the window to make sure the server started successfully.

Try to open EMTP on a client machine. If the software opens without any error messages, the upgrade is
done successfully.

Common problem
When opening EMTP-RV on the client machine, the following error message pops up:
Troubleshooting:

How to activate or update EMTP using a network license file

License type: Network
Once the license is installed on the host server, the same license file is used to activate EMTP on each
client machine. If the license is not installed on the server, proceed to the installation first.

Solutions
- Save on your computer the license file: emtp_server_license.lic (see Network Installation).
The location is not important.
- Open EMTP-RV: go to the Start menu on your computer / All programs, and click in the
program EMTPWorks
- If EMTP does not find any valid license file the EMTP Activation Utility opens automatically.
Else, go to Help & Support and launch the EMTP Activation Utility in the Licensing section.
- Click on Import license file and select the license file you copy previously.

Once the activation successful, the license information is displayed in the table.

Common problem
An error message pops up and prevent EMTP from opening so it is impossible to access the EMTP
Activation Utility

Troubleshooting:
Delete the content of C:\ProgramData\Powersys and try again.
How to install, set-up and start the EMTP-RV license server manager

1. Choose your license server machine. This will normally be a file server on your network
that will be available when any other computers on the network are in use. If the license
server is not running, the EMTP software cannot be run. The license server can only be
run on the single system that it is licensed for.

2. You can access the EMTP-RV download page from

http://www.emtp.com/content/download using the login and password you received by
mail.

3. Download and run the license server installer (EMTP-RV_Server_Setup.exe).

4. Once it is installed, run the FLEXlm License Manager Utility software (start > programs
> EMTP License Server) and go to the “System Settings” tab.

5. Click on “Save HOSTID Info to a File” to save this information in a file named
network_hostid.txt

6. Send the file network_hostid.txt to support@emtp.com. In order to accelerate the

treatment of your request, please add to your mail the activation code we previously sent
to you.

7. Now we should have received your request. A license file will be sent to you very shortly
by e-mail (it can take up to 48 hours).
8. Open the license file (emtp_server_license.lic) provided to you using Notepad or any
other plain-text editor. You will see a line in this file like this one:

SERVER server_name hostid

The server name must match the network name of your server. If this is not done already,
change the name as needed. Do not change the hostid value; this will corrupt your license.
It must look like this line:

SERVER John f04da2344c9c

9. Place the license file emtp_server_license.lic in the EMTP License Server folder, i.e. the
same folder as the “lmgrd.exe” application (by default: C:\Program Files\EMTP License
Server) and start again the FLEXlm License Manager Utility.

10. Go to the “Config Services” tab

11. Click the Browse button next to the "Path to the lmgrd.exe file" item

12. Locate the lmgrd.exe item in the EMTP License Server folder

13. Click the Browse button next to the "Path to the license file" item

14. Locate the license file you copied into the same folder

15. Click the Browse button next to the "Path to the debug log file"

16. Write an arbitrary name for your log file and click on open.
17. If you wish to have the license server start automatically when your system starts up,
checkbox the “Use Services “switch and the “Start Server at Power Up” checkbox.

18. Go to the “Start/Stop/Reread” tab and click on the “Start Server “button. Check the
status message at the bottom of the window to make sure the server started successfully.
19. To check your server operation, go to the Server Status tab, and click on the “Perform
Status Enquiry” button. Scroll to the end of the status text displayed in the box below
and verify that it shows that all licenses are available for use.
