Title: THE SUITABILITY OF Musa acuminata FRUIT PEEL FOR PAPER BAG PRODUCTION

ABSTRACT

Production” aimed to determine the durability of paper made with Cavendish

banana peel, water, and chemicals. The durability of banana peel papers – with and
without added chemicals – were compared to that of a paper bag made of wood.

In an attempt to meet the research ends, the researchers utilized quantitative-

experimental approach. The researchers used measuring cups during the
experimentation. A weighing scale and a ruler were used to gather numerical data
during the durability tests.

A total of 3 products were involved in this study. The durability testing was
performed to determine the tearing point, water absorption, and deterioration of each
product. The research revealed the durability of each paper product.

From the ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) of the data gathered, the researchers
found out that the tearing point, water absorption, and deterioration of the 3 products
were statistically very close to one another.

From the results, the researchers also recommend the following topics for further
study: (a) other uses of banana bio-wastes such as peels and pseudo-stem, (b) uses of
other bio-waste materials, (c) utilizing banana peels to make bio-plastics, and (d) other
alternatives for wood in paper production.
