Title: AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE EFFECTS OF MAGNETIC FIELD ON TOMATO

SEEDLINGS SOWN IN SUBSTANDARD SOIL

ABSTRACT

To test the hypothesis that a static magnetic field (MF) affects the germination of
seedlings and a few of which would be induced to grow, an experiment was conducted
involving Solanum lycopersicum seeds. The study pivots on the adaptability of the
seeds sowed in substandard sandy and basic soil in an attempt to determine seedling
survival along with the other parameters including the number of germinated S.
lycopersicum seeds, first cotyledon appearance, and height of the S. lycopersicum
seedlings.

The effects of a MF exposure on tomato seeds (S. lycopersicum) were continuously

observed in their nursery stage from the date of sowing until a week after the first
emergence of their cotyledon. The results show no significant difference in the height of
the seedlings, while the number of the germinated seeds and cotyledon appearance
differ
only by a small figure between the control and treatment groups. Despite showing no
suppression effects on the seedlings, it was inferred that the MF can only induce as
much energy to sustain the seedlings until the transplantation marked the conclusive
detection of seedling death or survival.
