Foam Solution Velocity

Foam solution velocity in pipe including deluge valve manifold pipe taken from firewater main shall
not exceed 6 m/sec although 3.5 m/sec (block case 4 m/sec) for firewater main network pipe.

6. MAXIMUM FOAM DEMAND

Foam Demand

The largest foam demand of one of the fire risk areas will be the maximum foam demand based on a single
major fire breaking out in one fire risk area in any one time.

The used foam shall be FP “Fluoroprotein” of 6% concentration” for storage tanks foam chambers only, all
remaining facilities in process areas shall use AFFF “Aqueous Film Forming Foam” of 3% concentration
including fire monitors.

7. FIRE WATER DEMAND SCENARIOS:

The following table in Attachment#1 “Fire Scenarios and Application Rates”, summarizes different fire
scenarios for fire that could develop in equipment/separate areas and the firefighting equipment used to protect
this equipment/area showing the application flow rates that will be used for the burning equipment as well as
any other adjacent equipment in fire radiation section as detailed in COOP-2021-15-D-3-FF-FP-01 Fire
Fighting Systems Philosophy

Calculation Result

Maximum Foam Demand for 3% AFFF foam type is Scenario # 1 “Storage Tank S-10 same as K-1 & K2” is
maximum foam demand case of maximum capacity of 20 m3 of concentrated foam required for 3 hrs of
operation to cover tank S-10 dike area with 2 fire monitors at 6.5 lpm/m2 application rate.

Maximum Foam Demand for 6% FP foam type is Scenario # 2 “Storage Tank S-10 same as K-1 & K2” is
maximum foam demand case of maximum capacity of 6.5 m3 of concentrated foam required for 60 min to
operate the foam chambers of the burning tank.

This manual calculation result and its required fire main size will be verified by Hydraulic Calculation Report
using (“PIPENET” programmed by SUNRISE SYSTEM LTD.) for flow analysis in pipe network in Hydraulic
Calculation Report.

General Notes
1. Due to the shortage of information provided by COOP, some data have been assumed i.e. Working Volume for some Tanks, Tanks Roof Height,….. Etc.

2. Since the shell to shell distance between tanks complies with NFPA 30 Table # 4.3.2.2, The whole tank height was considered
3. Sufeace Area Equation used for Tanks Shell: ΠDH
Surface area Equation used for Tanks Roof: ΠRL where L is the slant height of the cone
4. K-Factor value can be obtained from the equation in NFPA 15 parag. 5.5.1.5
5. Minimum discharge pressure as per NFPA 15 of any protection nozzles at an outdoor hazard is 1.4bar, accordingly 2.1bar was used as an avarage design pressure to ensure that while including pressure
friction losses due to pipes material roughness and fitting, the nozzles pressure will always be maintane above 1.4bar
6. For estimating the required number of spray rings of each tank please refer to NFPA 15 parag. 4.5.2 and API RP 2030 sec. 7.3.13

7. In oreder to calcuate the number of nozzles per ring, please refer to NFPA 15 parag. 4.1.4

8. Nozzles overlaping shall meet the coverage distances mentioned in NFPA 15 parag. 4.1.4, parag. 4.5.2 & API RP 2030 sec. 7.3.13 with recommended overlap precentage 60%

9. For Pumps area, please consider two branchs instead of rings

10. Refere to NFPA 11 table 5.2.5.2.2

11. Monitor minimum flow rate shall not be less than (250GPM to 500GPM) as per API RP2030 sec. 7.2.1 accordingly for High Expansion system, 500GPM is recommended (refer to Design Basis COOP-2021-
15-D-3-FF-DB-01)
12. Refer to NFPA 11 Annex B table B-1
