Deception
Informed Consent
during at any point of the research.
Informed consent means letting the
participants be aware of the aim of
the study, the procedures, what their
data will be used for and their rights
including their right of withdrawing
from participating at any point during
the research. Using these
information participants can then
make a fair judgement of whether
they want to participate or not or what
data about them they would like to be
used.
Protection from harm
Deception means deliberately
misleading or withholding any
information from the participants
Not giving them any adequate
information or constantly lying to
them anything regarding the
research means that they are not
being given ‘informed consent’.
However, there are certain
occasions when it’s justifiable for
the researchers to be deceptive
about the research in order to get
a ‘natural’ response from the
participants.
