Advantages and disadvantages in the profession of medical


assistant

The profession of general medical assistant is considered a very noble one, but also full of
challenges. Also, the profession of medical assistant requires moral and professional qualities. You
need integrity and to take responsibility for a patient. In addition, it is important to know how to
organize yourself very well and to have an increased resistance to stress. Moreover, you have the
obligation not to discriminate and to follow the imposed rules.

Like any profession, that of a medical assistant has its advantages and disadvantages. To
begin with, here are some of the advantages:
 you always work in a team, which involves dividing tasks and taking care of patients as
efficiently as possible;

 you have a diverse activity that never lets you get bored;

 many patients remain friends of the medical assistants, because they have built a strong
connection over time;

 it is a job of the future, where there are always employment opportunities in different
private or state medical institutions, both in the country and abroad;

 the specialization lasts three or four years, which is little compared to the faculty of
medicine;

 depending on the chosen specialization, you can meet the most amazing cases and you can
handle the latest generation devices;

Disadvantages of the general medical assistant job:


 the work schedule is unusual and involves night shifts, but also many overtime hours;

 the responsibility is very high, because the life of a patient is in your care;

Of course, the risks of being a medical assistant are not few and you need to know them in
order to decide whether this job suits you or not. For example, you can come into contact quite
quickly with certain viruses or diseases that hospitalized patients have. Also, some departments
operate with disinfectant agents and cytotoxic drugs that can put staff at risk. Injuries or
diseases of the spine also fall into this category. A medical assistant handles patients, which means
a lot of extra weight for the back. Last but not least, stress is a factor that includes any employee
in the medical industry.
