Modernization and Globalization

The word globalization, which means "covering and concerning the whole world" in the
dictionary sense, has been used since the 1970s. The concept we call globalization is called
the gathering of all the people of the world under the same view in many respects such as
social, cultural political or economic. In other words, globalization can be defined as an
international integration process arising from the exchange of products, ideas and opinions.
However, it should be noted that globalization, which is reconciled only in terms of economy
or trade, also has an impact on the concept of modernization. For this reason, I will discuss
the effects and consequences of modernization on home design and architecture in this
article.
The space that offers nations the opportunity to form is a dimensional expression of the
historical identity of a nation's spirit and consciousness that takes place over time. People
integrates cultural, social and ethical values with the place where the human being is located.
The houses where people live reflect the culture and style of that community. However, these
cultures and values reflected have now reached the stage of extinction. This globalized
modernization has a real impact on home and life. People are now living in routinised houses.
Houses and decorations that are seen as mirrors of societies have become uniform. Rather
than comfort and useful furniture, flashy and uncomfortable furniture have been introduced.
Even the seats, which are used only as ornaments with the idea of flashy or different, have
started to be taken. For example, while paintings or some decor items that exhibit each
nation's own values and spirituality are not taken, a lot of meaningless items are bought only
for decor.
So, society, which has been under the influence of modernization for a long time, loses
its essence. With the idea of liberating houses, houses are breaking away from traditionalism.
Therefore, from here, we can say that places and houses decorated without ethical values for
aesthetic or westernization purposes lead to impersonality. The elements that characterize
old-fashioned houses turn into shows and unidentified places that have lost their soul are
formed. Whether people like other people instead of their own tastes, what they say, their
houses are like this, now even the design of the house is global with the idea that everyone
decorates it like this. As a result of this modernization process, classical works reflecting the
historical identity of society lose their freedom and become capitalist and impersonal
structures that can be found all over the world.
To summarize, it is a fact that the perception of modernization and globalization are
surrounding the world. It can also be said with certainty that this fact leads to a kind of
cultural transfer and a change of way of life. However, I must say that I am one of those who
defend that societies should act with a slight sense of nationalism. Even in home decor, I
think people need to address even the slightest issue sensibly with conscious approaches
when they are globalized. Every society must protect its national identity and national values.
