Difference between Precise and
Imprecise
Time does not have to precisely dated in terms of a
particular year or month.
Sometimes we can't predict the exact time or date of some
event because that event had occured gradually.
Precise v/s Imprecise
PRECISE IMPRECISE
`Events that happen or started at a particular
date, whose exact dates can me marked or
identified.
Dates like:

Crowning of a Prince.

came up

How kingdoms were formed

In fact, even advertisements can help us understand
how markets for new products were created and
how new tastes were popularised
The First Map od INDIA was
made by
JAMES RANNEL in 1782

Robert Clive asked Rannel to make

this map
Rannel wanted Britain to dominate
India
he felt that a proper map will help
in this purpose
What is the
difference between
Precise and
imprecise dates?
Who made the
First map of
India?
What are the major
interests of
historians regarding
history?
WHICH DATES ARE
IMPORTANT?
BY what criteria do we choose a set of dates are
important?
BY what criteria do we choose a set of dates are
important?
Any date is not important on its own
until or unless it is associated with some
important event
when we focus on an event as important

then the date associated with this event becomes

important

If we change our focus, and we look at a new event

or issue as important

then a new set of dates will become important for

us
Example

British Historians also wrote their version of

Indian History
For them, the rule of each Governor General
was important
1st Governor-
General of India
WARREN HASTINGS

appointed in (1773)
Last Viceroy of
India

LORD MOUNTBATTEN
The First Governor general in India - WARREN HASTINGS (1773)

The Last Viceroy of India - Lord mountbatten

All the dates in British history books was related to these

Governor- Generals
their activities, policies, achievements, etc.
But the history of this period can be written in a different way
also- by focusing on the Indian Society.
Chapters
Why do we divide a story, or history into
chapters?
Chapters
Why do we divide a story, or history into
chapters?

To make story logically connected and easily understandable.

When a story is divided into chapters it can be understood

easily and makes sense
In thus way, in each chapter we can focus those events that
helps us give shape to the story ( meaning that it helps in
gradually building the story )
