Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Cyber Bullying and Safety Using social media: 7th Grade Media Instruction
Course

Objectives:
Students will be able to prevent cyberbullying first-hand
Students will be able to acknowledge cyberbullying and know how react if they are a witness to
cyberbullying and or are experiencing it themselves
State Standards:
4.DL.3.1Identify cyberbullying and describe potential strategies to manage and eliminate
cyberbullying

Context: This lesson gives students the opportunity to become more proficient in their
understanding of social media use and how to protect themselves and others from cyberbullying.
This lesson strives from the basic unit of how to use technology beforehand. Students should
already know the basic concepts of how to use technology and the importance of safe use in
preparation for this lesson in which they will learn how to protect themselves from social media
and other technological threats. Students should learn in future lessons more advanced cyber
threats including hacking, stealing, and plagiarism in which this lesson will prep them for.

Data: Students will be group based off of previous assessments regarding previous student
knowledge of cyberbullying. Students who know more information will be placed with students
who know less about cyber bullying so that students can work and learn from each other when
placed in groups of peers. Students will be placed based on the non-graded assessment given to
them prior to class regarding how much they already know about cyberbullying which focused
on 4.DL.3.1 regulations and how they can work to eliminate cyber bullying. Data from this
lesson will be collected by having students work in groups to create a presentation on a strategy
that prevents cyber bullying or what to do if students come across cyber bullying. To ensure all
students understand and are collaborative, each student will be given one assigned part of the
presentation.

Materials: Laptops or tablets needed to play Kahoot through website. Google Classroom will be
used to assess students. White boards needed to answer questions.
Detailed paragraphs from here on down.
Procedures:
Introduction (15 minutes):
Students will come in quietly and begin their 5 minutes do now in silence. I will then go over all
background information on the topic of cyberbullying and safety regarding social media by
relating it to the previous lesson which allows me to evaluate student criteria needed to place
students in groups. They will then give their part of the presentation based on a random name
generator before the lesson takes place.

Teacher Directed (15 minutes):

Students still placed in groups will compete against other groups in a speed challenge where
students must answer my questions as quickly as possible. Questions could range from “what is
one strategy to prevent cyber bullying?” to more complex, personal questions such as “how can
you help someone who is being cyber bullied? "This strategy will make each student think more
critically while not having to answer alone.

Collaborative (15 minutes):

Each student will come up to the front white board where they will be asked a “do or don’t
“regarding cyber bullying. The rest of their classmates guided them to write the correct answer
under the do or don’t slot of the white board. This works as a collaborative activity in which
students work together to solve the answer and guide their classmate to determine whether the
given statement is a “do or don’t”.

Independent Digital (15 minutes): Students will do an independent comprehensions test on

google classroom. Students will take a short 5 question multiple choice quiz just so I can see
how much they learned from the lesson. Students will use the link below to get access to the quiz.
Students will use access code https://classroom.google.com/c/NjAxNTU3MTgyMDk2?cjc=zfx7ifv
Closure (10 minutes):
At the end of class students will be directed to remove from groups and sit independently while
we play a game of Kahoot as a class to ensure students are following the lesson in a fun way and
so that I can assure each of my students learned from the lesson plan. Students will access
Kahoot using this link.

Rationale: You must have at least two paragraphs (one for each mandatory piece of
multimedia)
(Multimedia 1= Google Classroom):
I will use google classroom in my lesson plan because it is an organized and efficient
way for students to find their way around and navigate a technological resource through
assignments, lecture videos, and assessments. It supports student learning by promoting
education through an implemented online resource in which students can learn daily
topics can learn through the assignments posted. It is high quality because it offers
multiple features and is a professional learning source for student to teacher contact.
Based on the LORI criteria in the 406, Google Classroom creates a platform for students
to work at their own pace but also works as an organized functionality for students to
keep up with upcoming assignments as it enforces and reminds students of upcoming due
dates as well as other important messages or reminders.

(Multimedia 2= Kahoot):
I used Kahoot in my lesson plan for my students because it can be implemented as an
engaging activity and gives students the chance to practice the lesson and learn from
their mistakes. It supports student standards and objectives by pushing students to
engage in the lesson but in a physical and fun way. It is high of quality because it is used
as student practice and comprehension where students can review curriculum or use
kahoot to study for test. Based on LORI criteria in the 406, this educational based game
accomaodates student differentiation by giving students the opportunity to play a game
rather than do lecture based lesson plan as well as gives students the chance to learn
from the game if they get a question wrong it shows the correct answer.
