The last topic is 2 types of evaluation

Formal evaluation also called internal evaluation

•Internal evaluation is a process in which the department members judges the quality
cooperatively and select evaluation factors, criteria and indicators based on the input, output
and process factors such as management, faculty, student, programs, learning- teaching
process and graduates.

•Internal evaluation refers to an evaluation conducted by an organization or program/project

staff in which the evaluators are directly accountable to the organization being evaluated. As
such, the primary responsibility for the internal evaluation lies with the organization itself.

Advantage of formal Evaluation

•Internal evaluations have numerous advantages particularly their low cost. Additionally,
internal evaluators tend to have greater familiarity with the organization itself, the evaluated
program and associated policies, the various organizational stakeholders, and of course the
targeted population.

Disadvantages

• The major disadvantage to the conduct of an internal evaluation is its actual and perceived
bias. There is actual bias because it is human nature for organizational members to perceive
program flaws through the lens of their common organizational experiences. Consequently
subsequent findings may be diluted or may completely overlook significant problem areas.
There is perceived bias inherent in internal evaluations because the subsequent findings will
always be suspect for the very reasons just discussed for actual bias.

Explanation

•Internal evaluation involves asking good questions, gathering fit-for-purpose data and
information, and then making sense of that information. Much more than a technical process,
evaluation is deeply influenced by your values and those of your community.

•Internal evaluation is an integral part of each early learning setting’s curriculum planning and
implementation practices. Internal evaluation assists leaders to evaluate the quality of their
curriculum and plan for future action.
Internal evaluation findings are used to:

•inform decision-making

•improve the quality of practice &

•promote equitable outcomes

✓It is about finding out what is and is not working, and for whom. The next step is determining
what changes are needed to improve quality. Effective internal evaluation is always driven by
the motivation to improve.

✓Effective evaluation requires us to think deeply about the data and information we gather
and what it means in terms of priorities for action.

✓By questioning ourselves, we keep the focus on our learners, particularly those for whom
current practice is not working. Aspiring for excellence and equitable outcomes is always front
and centre.
