Chapter I

1. Introduction
2. The industry is Located in Addis Ababa, Lideta Kifle-Ketema, Kebele 07, around Mexico
Square and it covers an area of 97,025 square meters. This industry was established between
the agreement of our country and the Czechoslovakian government here at Addis in 1945
E.C at an estimated cost of Birr 2,000,000.00 and invested capital of Birr 2,000,000.00. It
was expanded in 1977 E.C with the expense of Birr 82, 000,000.00. The main objective was
to produce different types of ammunition of simple bullet, woodwork and metal work,
medals and badges, and tools and spare parts.
3. Before the current name given as Addis Machine and Spare parts Manufacturing Industry, it
was described by different names at different time frame by different groups. The names of
the industry were: His Majestic H/Silassie Ammunition Factory, Addis Machine Tools
Factory, Addis Metal Pressing Enterprise, Tools and Spare Parts of Design and
Manufacturing Center, Addis Engineering Center and Hibret Machine Tool Engineering
Complex, Hibret Manufacturing and Machine Building Industry respectively.
4. This organization passed through different situation of administration, Addis Metal Pressings
Enterprise was established by the council of ministers Regulation No. 38/1990 in June 19,
1990 E.C by authorized capital of Birr 111,216,000.00 and paid capital of Birr 76,216,000.00
and administered under the development of government organization according to
proclamation No. 25/1984.
5. The council ministers of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia government 101 th
regular meeting held decision number 2/ms101w284/1996 the Addis Metal Pressing
Enterprise completely restructured, and the rights and obligations of the organization will
shifted to Defense minister of the country. This was provoked by the federal Negarit Gazeta
11th year No. 39 under the heading council of minister Regulation No. 102/1996.
6. By using this power Defense takes corrective measures and ordered to transfer the
ammunition factory to Hormat Ammunition Engineering Factory. According to this order the
main body of the factory i.e. ammunition product equipment’s, machines, etc. were
transferred to Hormat Ammunition Engineering Factory. Thus the remaining workshops in
the organization are:
1. Tools and Spare parts Workshops (Machine workshop)
2. Medals and Badges Workshops
3. Metal and Product packaging Products
The organization was working by the name of “Tools and spare parts of design and
manufacturing center” under the Defense Industries Coordination Office starting from the letter
written by the country Defense Minister of protocol number “m3/st2/t/1094/96 on the day of
April 9, 1997 E.C.
Again, the letter was written from Defense Industries Coordination Office protocol
numbers“m3/st/2/t/357/97 on the day of November 23, 1997 E.C. decided the name of the
organization to be called as Addis Engineering Center.
Finally, the Defense Industries Coordination Office decides, since December, 2000 E.C. the
industry re-structured itself with a new name, Hibret Machine Tool Engineering Complex, by
applying new management concepts to add some value to the countries staggering manufacturing
industry.
Coming out of its past history, currently the complex was stretched to industry. It is now given
the new vision and direction from the Ethiopian government and restructures itself, under the
metal and engineering corporation, to meet the targets it was established for.
The industry includes five factories and expected to make so many activities to be the role model
in machine tool building, and expand and develop these activities in the whole country. It has an
ultimate goal to suffice local demands and compete in global markets.

WORK, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ASSIGNMENTS

2.1 Task one:-machine building Workshop

Machine building workshop is one of Addis Machine and Spare parts Manufacturing
Industry, workshop that auto periodic service takes place and also press machine, wheel balance
takes place there. I start my internship program and also spend the first Eight weeks there.
Some of responsibility in service work shop
 Adjusting the programs on CNC lathe and milling machine
 Ordering conventional lathe machine
 Washing the machines with performed liquid specially oil
 Cleaning work piece regularly
 Remove the cheips surrounding of the machine
 Removing waste material like coolants
 Cleaning in race and out race bearing
 Bringing the cutters, bolts, nuts, some pieces, for the workers
 Greasing the inner part of the machine
 Cleaning air cleaner by the help of air compressor.
 Cleaning differential gear box component
 Wheel balance
 Tire change
 Adjust some wonky parts with press machine
2.1.1 Details of some of the work done in the workshop

Manufacturing

Manufacturing Is the process in which the checked complete document & detail action plan is
distributed to concerned Workshops/operators. Under wheel service other sub services take place
such as inspection spare parts or machine componenets, inspection of spare parts or machine
components, searching similar componenets, inspect or replace failed parts, inspect or replace
bearing and other were serviced Under the damaged machine maintenance is repetitive task
during my internship time. So I passed steps to complete reassembling of diffrent machine.

First I disassemble all the components of the machine and with my fellow workers and we
recognize the damaged part and gave the best treatment for that damaged parts, if it is mandatory
we have give new design and manufacture that parts with full clearance and finally we assemble
that machine and after the compilation we checked it.

And also I passed different steps to complete my assignment. I tighten bonnet nut and checked
all component of the machine like lock spring then I loosen component of the motor one by one
and put them in their order. After thus, I cleaned and dried all part with help of air compressor.
Lastly I reassemble the machine elements according to their steps.
