Detailed Solution
As per IS 800: 2007, Cl- 3.8, the Slenderness ratio of steel sectionsis limited as per the following:
Maximum
‘Type of member slenderness ratio
A member carrying compressive loads
resulting from the dead load and the 180
imposed load
A tension member in which a reversal of direct
stressoccurs due to loads other than wind and 180
seismicforces
‘A member subjected to compressionforce
resulting only from combination with
wind/earthquake actions, provided the na
deformation of such members does not
adversely affectthe stressin any part of the
structure
Compression flange of a beam against lateral a
torsional buckling
A member normally acting asa tie in a roof
truss or a bracing systemnot considered
effective when subjected to a possible reversal 350
of stressinto compressionresulting from the
action of wind earthquake forces.
Member alwaysunder tension (other than pre- 400
tensioned members)
