Summary - The possibility of a regulatory freeze brought on by investor-state dispute

settlement (ISDS) has been the focus of public health worries in relation to the
liberalization of international investment. The relationship between the international
investment regime and the formulation of non-communicable disease (NCD) policy,
however, is influenced by broader political and economic factors that have not received
as much attention. To understand why, how, and under what circumstances
transnational firms may use the international investment regime to promote NCD
prevention policy non-decisions, this review set out to synthesize the current
information using a political economy methodology.

Summary - In Germany today, 20 million people are fat, more than 50% of individuals
are overweight, and 10 to 30% of people have non-communicable diseases (NCD). Bad
eating habits cause NCD, hence NCD are at least somewhat preventable. In recent years,
the focus of nutrition study has shifted from nutrients to foods that identify the types of
foods that make up healthy diets, such as the Mediterranean diet, the DASH diet, and/or
the New Nordic Diet. These diets have been scientifically proven to be successful
primary and secondary NCD prevention strategies. Based on these data, population-
level NCD prevention is now urgently required. Effective public health policies of
preventive and health promotion, however, go beyond routine medical care and call for
a broader perspective on our food system. To be sustainable, behavior preventive
techniques and practices that target individuals must also target the obesogenic
environment and its systemic drivers inside our food system. So, for the country to be in
better future health, social and political adjustments are required. Doctors may take the
initiative to be ready to contribute to a society-wide approach to prevention and health
promotion.
