I-Conditional 'If':
1-Use 'Should', 'Were', 'Had' to replace 'If':
- If he comes early, he will help his sister.
. Should you come early, he will help his sister.
- If I were you, I'd study harder.
. Were I you, I'd study harder.
- If Amro paid more attention, he would understand the lesson.
. Were it for Amro to pay more attention, he would understand the lesson.
- If Hanna had had much money, she would have bought a new mobile.
. Had Hanna had much money, she would have bought a new mobile.
II-A) No sooner + had + S. + P.P. --- than + Past S. T. :
N.B.: Change the first action into past perfect, then invert had with the subject:
- I opened the gate. Then, the dog escaped.
. No sooner had I opened the gate than the dog escaped.
B) Hardly/Scarcely + had + S + P.P. --- when + Past S. T.:
- I got into the library. Then, the alarm went off.
. Hardly/ Scarcely had I got into the library when the alarm went off.
III- Not only/Never/Seldom/Rarely/Only after/Not once/Nowhere/Not since + (Split Verbs):
- I don’t visit my grandparents very often.
. Rarely do I visit my grandparents.
- He seldom goes to the museum.
. Seldom does he go to the museum.
- He never eats junk food.
. Never does he eat junk food.
- He hasn’t bought me flowers even once.
. Not once has he bought me flowers.
