CORRECTION PILLAR OF PJS: 4th PILLAR
Instruction. Answer the following questions. You can use
additional paper/s if needed.
1. Discuss the role of correction pillar in PJS.
 ͑ To maintain institutions
 To protect law-abiding
 To reform offenders
 To deter crime

2. Discuss why correction is considered as the weakest link of


PJS.
 The Philippine Justice System's third pillar, corrections, is
thought to be the weakest since it frequently lacks the
funding, people, and resources needed to successfully
rehabilitate convicts.

3. Distinguish jail from prison.


 Prison defines a location for offenders who have been found
guilty of significant crimes, whereas jail can refer to a
location for people who are being imprisoned while awaiting
trial or for less serious offenses.

4. What are the jails under BMP and prisons under BuCor?
 Jails under BJMP are City and Municipal jails while prisons
under BuCor are; The New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa
City,The Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in
Mandaluyong City,Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto
Princesa City, Palawan,Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in
Occidental Mindoro,San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in
Zamboanga City,Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte
and Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Panabo, Davao
Province.
5. What are the different rehabilitation and treatment programs
under institutional corrections
 PRISON EDUCATION - the cornerstone of rehabilitation.
- it is the process or result of formal training in school or
classrooms intended to shape the mind and attitude of
prisoners towards good living upon their release.
CLASSES OF PRISON EDUCATION
A. GENERAL AND ACADEMIC EDUCATION - the objective
of which is to eradicate illiteracy among prisoners.
B. VOCATIONAL EDUCATION - the purpose of which is to
provide prisoners necessary skills for successful works in a
socially acceptable occupation after their release. (Auto
mechanics, shoe making, tailoring, carpentry)
C . PHYSICAL EDUCATION
2. WORK PROGRAMS - it is purposely to eliminate idleness
on the part of prisoners, which may contribute to "prison
stupor", and it affects the incidence of prison riot.
3. RELIGIOUS SERVICES IN PRISON - the purpose of this
program is to change the attitudes of inmates by inculcating
religious values or belief.
4. RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS

6. COUNSELING AND CASEWORK

6. What are the different community-based correction?


 Probation, parole, job releases, study releases, furloughs,
and halfway homes are examples of community-based
program types that are discussed.
