ASSIGNMENT

“GREATEST HOAXES IN THE PHILIPPINES”

1.) Tribo ng tasaday

The so-called Tasaday tribe was a hoax. Many people think that they are an undiscovered Stone
Age influence tribe. It turns out that they may already belong to another tribe; it`s just that they
are a group that's still not exposed to the modern world. Manuel Manda Elizade`s fleeing was
suspicious right after he receive all the donation for the preservation of the tribe. The tribe are
believed to be gotten from the Manobo tribe that was used to act as an undiscovered tribe.

2.) Ferdinand Marcos being a war hero

The US military states their record of Ferdinand’s group of guerrilla did not participate to any
part of the world war resistance during the Japanese occupation. According to the retired
congress Philippine army colonel Bonifacio Gallego, Marcos did not receive any award for his
said participation after the World War 2. It is also said that they found a letter by a world war
commander doubting the activities of maharlika which is the group Marcos called as that time.
The witnesses also doubt that Marcos claims he is one of the world war hero in which there are
claims that he isn`t.

3.) Prisoners of war during World War II drowned in the dungeons of Fort Santiago

Yes, it was found out that hundreds of prisoners died in the said dungeon, but the cause of death
was really suffocation, not drowning. According to Dr. Victor Torres, "Based on the
archaeological research that was created in the 1980s, the water does not even rise in any of the
kennels." He also added that it is probably mentioned on some documentary where "El Tabo," in
English, "Devil's Drum," is a chamber of flood filled by water under the grounds of Fort
Santiago. Now how did the drowning story spread? The same is true for those who survived the
Fort Santiago torture. It is also a story about an American who traveled to the Philippines in the
early 1900s and described this chamber. "The room he taught was not really that," Torres said.
The soldiers also died of suffocation and heat exhaustion due to cramped conditions.
