1 System requirements

1.1 Hardware
The following are the minimum requirements for the client hardware:
 Pentium III PC, at least 500 MHz
 128 MB main memory
 Min. 800x600 pixel resolution

1.2 Operating systems

The belenus interparts client runs under the following operating systems:
 Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8

1.3 Internet browser

 MS Internet Explorer, version 6.0 or higher
- with Virtual Machine, Sun Java Plugin 1.5 or higher
 Mozilla version 1.7 or higher & Firefox version 1.0 or higher
- With Virtual Machine, Sun Java Plugin 1.5 or higher

1.4 Miscellaneous
 Pop-up-blockers (such as the one in the Google toolbar) must not be activated
when working with belenus interparts.
 Notes on Firewall
The Windows Firewall provides an error message referring to the "javaw"
program. (This can differ from computer to computer, depending on the settings.)
 Notes on virus scanners
Various virus scanners can cause an error when the application "WinParts.exe" is
started.
In such cases, the application in the virus scanner must be defined as being an
exception during the examination.
 Java runtime environment settings
If it is not possible to print large drawings, the memory for the Java runtime
environment must be adapted. (Only the Sun Java runtime environment provides
this option.)
System control  Java Plug-in  Extended  Java runtime parameters: "-
Xms350m -Xmx350m".

NOTE
The parameter refers to systems with 512 MB main memory and more. If the
application does not start, too much memory has been reserved, and the
parameter must be reset.

2 System settings

2.1 MS Internet Explorer, version 6 or higher

2.1.1 Settings for "scripting"

 Open the "Tools" menu and choose "Internet options".

 Select the "Security" tab.

 Select the web content zone "Internet".

 Press the "Custom level" button.

 Look for the "Scripting" section.

 Enable all of the radiobuttons next to the subordinate points "Active scripting",
"Allow Programmatic clipboard acces" and "Scripting of Java applets".

2.1.2 "Virtual machine" settings

To activate Sun Virtual Machine, Sun Java Plugin, version 1.5 or higher, the following
settings must be made in Internet Explorer:
 Open the "Tools" menu and choose "Internet options".

 Select the "Advanced" tab.

 Look for the "Java (Sun)" section.

 Activate the check box in the subordinate point.

 Confirm your changes by pressing "OK" twice.
 Now exit Internet Explorer and restart.

Help should problems arise

Java error messages are very helpful if you are facing problems.
 In the information in the taskbar, use the right mouse key to click on the Java
symbol to open the context menu. Then click on "Open console".

The following window appears. The version and release of the Microsoft VM for
Java are displayed.
Should errors linked to Java occur, they will also be logged here.

Should an error occur, please copy and past the content of this window into an e-
mail and send it to the contact person responsible who will help remedy the
situation.

2.2 Firefox version 1 or higher & Mozilla version 1.7 or higher

NOTE
Only HD3+PNG/GIF/TIFF/JPEG pictures can be shown.

2.2.1 Settings for Mozilla

 Open the "Edit" menu and choose "Preferences".

 Open the "Advanced" menu item.

 Select the item "Scripts & Plugins".

 Make sure that the "Navigator" check box is ticked under "Enable JavaScript for".

 Confirm your changes with "OK".

 Now shut down Netscape/Mozilla and restart.

2.2.2 Settings for Firefox version 1.4 and below

 Open the "Tools" menu and choose "Settings".

 Open the "Web features" menu item.

 Tick "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript".

 Confirm your changes with "OK".
 Now shut down Firefox and restart.

 Tick "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript".

 Confirm your changes with "OK".
 Now shut down Firefox and restart.

3 Additional software
For certain program functions, you should have additional software installed on your
computer:

 For displaying PDF files:

the Adobe Reader Plugin for your web browser.
 For displaying SVG files:
the Adobe SVG viewer, version 3.0 for your web browser.
NOTE
Precondition for viewing the connection diagrams in eCat and eCat Web is the
installation of Adobe SVG Viewer.
You will find the installation file (SVGView.zip) in the main directory on the
eCat CD/DVD or for download on the Adobe website.

4 System restrictions
 belenus interparts can be used on the server in different stages of development.
The functions and appearance of the web client will differ depending on the stage
of development used.
This concerns, above all, the search functions and the shopping trolley, but also
working with favourites, notes etc. Any restrictions caused by this can be found in
the user manual. They will be marked as being (optional).
For these reasons, the user interface of your web client can differ slightly from the
description in the manual.
 belenus interparts 3.0 supports the following file formats as standard: belenus
HD3+PNG/GIF/TIFF/JPEG, SVG and PDF for displaying graphics with a
simultaneous link to the parts list. An assortment of these formats can be used.
However, these functions are only supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Under Mozilla 1.7 and Firefox 1.0, only the belenus HD3+PNG/GIF/TIFF/JPEG
format is supported for displaying graphics.

5 Installing and starting up the program

5.1 Installation
 Put the CD/DVD supplied into the CD/DVD drive of your computer.
Usually the installation program will start automatically. If not, start the program
using Windows Explorer by double clicking directly on the file "setup.exe" in the
CD/DVD drive.
 Select the required language in the window, (only the GUI languages supplied by
the catalogue supplier are available) and confirm you your choice with OK.
You can jump to the next dialog at any time by clicking "Next>", can return to the
previous dialog with "Back", or exit the installation sequence with "Cancel".
 Read the licence agreement in the next dialog window carefully and select "I
Agree" to continue with the installation.
 Select the application's method of installation in the next mask:

5.1.1 Start from CD/DVD

If you select this option, no files will be copied on your hard disk. The application and
the catalogue are completely started from the CD/DVD.
NOTE
The stability and speed of the application are dependent here on the reading speed of
your CD/DVD drive.

5.1.2 Full installation

If you select this option, all of the data, meaning program files, user-specific files and
catalogue data will be copied into a directory/folder of your choice.
 If you have chosen full installation, in the next dialog window you can accept
either the preset target directory or choose a target directory of your choice.
 Then confirm with "Next".
 In the last window, you still have to select whether program shortcuts should be
created and whether the "Readme.txt" file should be opened before the program
is started.
 Complete the installation by clicking on "Next>".

5.2 Starting the program

During the installation a program folder for the catalogue software will be installed
under Start>Programs.
 In the program folder, select the point for starting the application or double click
the corresponding desktop icon.

5.3 Uninstalling the software

5.3.1 Start from CD/DVD

Not necessary to uninstall the software, even if WinParts icons have been saved.

5.3.2 Full installation

The uninstall feature is always found under Start > Control panel > Software.
If the WinParts icons are saved in the start menu, the icons for uninstalling the
software will also be found here.

5.4 Network installation

The application must run permanently on a computer that is accessible over the
network. Port 60477 of this computer must be enabled (Firewall settings).
It is accessed from various computers via Internet Explorer and port 60477. Example
of an address entry in the Internet Explorer: http://ecat-pc:60477 (ecat-pc is the
computer name of the permanently running system.)
NOTE
If the application is started via a network drive, only one user can access it at a time.
