LIST OF LAB EXERCISES

Ex no. Exercise Title Date Signature

1 Pivot Table: Prepare a worksheet to maintain daily sales record of

a sales agency with the details of sales area, salesman name, sales
amount etc. Find the solution of queries for analysis purpose:
Query1: What is the total sales amount in each sales area at the end
of a quarter?

Query2: Who is the best salesman in terms of sales amount?

[assume at least two more queries by yourself and find the
solution]

Prepare an interactive dashboard of all the analysis done.

2 Pivot Table: Prepare a worksheet to maintain daily transactions of

online recharge application with the details of device
recharged(Mobile/DTH), payment method, amount, etc.

[Prepare at least four different queries for analysis purpose e.g.

Which payment method is most frequently used by the customer?
Prepare an interactive dashboard of all the analysis done. ]

3 Pivot Table: Prepare a worksheet to maintain the records of

employees working in an organization with the details of
Department name, designation, salary, gender etc.

[Prepare at least four different queries for analysis purpose e.g.

How much salary is distributed in various departments? Prepare an
interactive dashboard of all the analysis done.]

4 Pivot Table: Create a spreadsheet in MS excel as shown below:

Orderdate Region Salesman Item Units U_price Total_Amt

a. Enter 100 records in the table and create the Table for
Raw Data.
b. Create the Pivot table for Sales report based performance
by using Salesman, Item and Total amount.
c. Create the Pivot table for Sales report based on Region
and number of items sold.
d. Create Line chart for Sales report based on Region and
number of items sold.

5 Pivot Table: Prepare a worksheet to maintain the records of

customer enquiries in an automobile showroom(Bike/Car).
[Prepare at least four different queries for analysis purpose e.g.
what kind of bike (engine capacity/colour/price) is preferred by a
particular age group?]

6 Pivot Table: Prepare a worksheet to demonstrate the use of

calculated fields and calculated items.

7 Goal Seek: Prepare a worksheet to demonstrate the use of goal

seeking in a financial problem.

8 Solver add-ins: A Marketing Company is engaged in selling

following products:
Name of product Profit per Unit

Product A 87

Product B 98

Product C 67

Product D 82

There are some constraints which must be satisfied: i) A

maximum of 100 units can be sold in a day. ii) A minimum of 10
units of Product C is required in a day to fill existing orders. iii)
A maximum of 20 units of Product A can be sold, and a maximum
of 25 units of Product B in a day.

iv) A minimum of 1 unit of each product should be sold to the

customer.

Now find an optimum solution for maximized profit. [Make

all necessary assumptions]

9 Solver add-ins: Suppose we are given Indian currency notes of all

denominations, e.g. {1,2,5,10,20,50,100,200, 500,2000}. The
problem is to find the minimum number of currency notes to make
the required amount A, for payment. [Make all necessary
assumptions]

10 Solver add-ins: A hypothetical credit union takes member deposit

and invest them in loans to other members, bank FDs, and other
types of investments. The Union distributes part of the return on
these investments in the form of dividends. Amount invested in
new car loans must be at least 3 times the amount invested in old
car loans.

Car loans should be at least 15% of portfolio.

Unsecured loans should be less than or equal to 25% of total

investment.
At least 10% of portfolio should be invested in bank FDs.

All investments should be positive.

Total investment 5,00,000.

[Make all necessary assumptions]

11 Solver add-ins: you are planning an advertising campaign for a

new product launch. Your total budget for print media is 1200000.
you want to expose your ads at least 50 million times to potential
readers and you’ve decided to place ads in six publications. Each
publication reaches a different number of readers and charges a
different rate per ad. Your job is to reach the readership target
(number of views) at the lowest possible cost with the following
additional constraints:

At least 3 and at most 12 advertisements should run in each

publication.
No more than a one third of your advertising amount should be
spent on any one publication.

Your total cost for placing advertisements in Pub3 and Pub4 must
not exceed 500000. [Make all necessary assumptions]

12 Solver Add-ins: Find the solution of Linear equation with 3

variables. [Make all necessary assumptions]

13 Solver Add-ins: Find the solution of Linear equation with 4

variables. [Make all necessary assumptions]

14 Monte Carlo Simulation: Perform Monte Carlo simulation with

dice throw example.
