After being the 6th, 11th, and 12th grade English teacher for only a week, I had to do

parent-teacher conferences. This was a great experience because instead of going into it with a
mindset of talking about students to the parents, it was more of an opportunity for me to get to
know the parents and ask what I can do to best support their student as a new teacher. With
this mindset, I was ready to take on the conferences. However, I only had 3 parents visit, but it
was the most eye opening experience I could have had. It really showed me the passion that
parents have for their students both emotionally and academically. I had one parent talk to me
about their child sometimes being left out and I had one parent talk to me about wanting their
child to be challenged and stretch their brain more. It was awesome to collaborate with them
and come together for the best of their students.
