PETA ACTIVITY: RAISING A BROILER CHICKEN

INTRODUCTION

Broiler production are chickens with mixed(hybrid) breeds and some are genetically
engineered mainly for large meat production. In order to sustain human consumption, they are
designed to grow rapidly and can produce more eggs than usual. They are commonly bred in
brooding stations and commercially slaughtered 7 to 8 weeks of its age and can weigh 2
kilograms or more.

So as a Home Economics student, we were tasked to raise a broiler chicken to feed and
monitor them and test our knowledge and skills in raising broiler chickens. We are given more
than 45 days to raise them and check any necessary or unusual things that may happen to the
chicken and what will be our preventive measures to lessen those problems. After monitoring
carefully, we will document every thing we do day by day by means of photo or videos that will
serve as a proof to our professor that we ourselves really raise broiler chickens and not just to
falsify everything. Our professor also gave us a choice if we slaughter them for a source of food
or we will make them as a pet. Between those two we can choose as long as the main objective
of this project must achieve which is to raise a broiler chicken.
