Mod 9 - Assistive Technology Discussion

After reviewing the content to familiarize yourself with assistive technologies, choose one
that interests you to explore further. When you are finished researching and exploring that
assistive technology, report to the class in the discussion, your findings.

Things to include in your post:

1. The assistive technology you chose to explore (name and link)

2. What disability it assists and how
3. Your evaluation of that piece of assistive technology. (Effectiveness? availability?
Cost? etc.)

One assistive technology tool that I could use in my science classroom is speechify. I teach
at a title 1 school where the reading levels is low. This tool would allow students to listen to
assignments and notes to better understand the content. Speechify has been used to help
support students with dyslexia or other learning disabilities by providing an alternative
means of accessing the course material. The program can help students with different
learning styles and abilities engage with course materials more effectively. Students can use
it to listen to the text while reading along. This can help my students improve their
comprehension by reinforcing the information they are reading with an auditory input. It can
also be used to reinforce the pronunciation of these terms. Helping students build their
vocabulary is very important for the students success on end of course exams. It can make
science materials more accessible to students with visual impairments or those who prefer
to learn through listening. It is free for a basic version. I believe the basic version is all the
student would need for the classroom.
