While we are all accustomed to listening with
the habit of “agreeing” or giving “unsolicited
advice”

ex.
Person 1: I hate my mom
Person 2: OMG!!! You too??

Person 1 : Commuting is the worse!

Person 2 : Then don’t leave the house, simple!
Stephen Covey ( Author of the 7 Habits of
Highly Effective People) suggests, “to become
better communicators, we should learn how
to do EMPHATIC LISTENING

This tells us to listen intently, and only speak

by mirroring the other person.

How do we do this? We paraphrase what the

says but done in his own “point of view”
Emphatic Listening is the Art of Paraphrasing from
the listener’s point of view. (“SEEK FIRST TO
UNDERSTAND THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD”)

1.I can’t catch up with the lesson

You’re saying that the teacher’s explaining too fast?

2.It’s either me or my brother leaving the room!
