2. When the music stops, whoever holding the ball will peel the cabbage and answer the question written on
the peeling.
3. Repeat until all questions were answered.

Questions:
1. It refers to the likelihood for something to happen. It is also referred to as the measure of chance.
2. The possible result of the experiment.
3. The act of all possible outcomes of an experiment.
4. A set that contains all the elements of that are in at least one of the two events.
5. A set that contains the common elements of two events.

Motivation/Preparatory Activity

Video Presentation
Play a music video entitled MAHAL KO O MAHAL AKO by Kz Gandingan
https://youtu.be/63Xf-2MHakc
Questions:
1. What does the lyrics of the song trying to tell us?
2. If you were the girl who will you choose?
3. Will it be easy for you to choose?
USING 4AS APPROACH IN LESSON PLANNING Template Designed by MCC/SLNHS

4. It is possible to choose both?

 Presentation of the objectives.

Vocabulary Check: Star Groups

 Using the Star Groups strategy, in a group words inside the box, students will identify 5 words that
are synonymous to the word MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. If the identified word is correct, a star will
appear. If the identified word is incorrect, an X will appear.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON

ACTIVITY:

ACTIVITY 1: “Let’s Volt In!”

Materials: Envelops, pieces of pictures put inside the envelop, cartolina

Instructions:
1. Each group will be given an envelope containing pictures.
2. Group the following pictures into two based on their observable properties or characteristics.

3. Using the two column chart, glue the pictures in the cartolina and hang/post it on the board.

ANALYSIS

Questions:
1. How did you group the pictures?
2. Describe the events happening in the pictures. What observable properties are your basis?
3. Which events that cannot happen at the same time? And which events can happen at the same time?

ABSTRACTION
“Video Presentation”
https://youtu.be/SQLAWVkFk4E

 The teacher will present a video about mutually exclusive events.

 After the presentation of the video, let the students differentiate mutually exclusive events from not
mutually exclusive events.
Additional illustrative example:
 Cards: Kings and Aces are Mutually Exclusive Events
 Selecting cards of Kings and Hearts it can happen at the same time because we can have a King of Hearts!

Formulas:
 If two events A and B are mutually exclusive, then the probability that either A or B occurs is the sum of
USING 4AS APPROACH IN LESSON PLANNING Template Designed by MCC/SLNHS

their probabilities. In symbols,

P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B)
Remember, “or” means to add the probability of each event.

 If two events A and B are not mutually exclusive, then the probability that either A or B occurs is the sum
of their probability decreased by the probability of both occurring. In symbols,
P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) – P(A and B)
Integration to related subjects:

APPLICATION

Group Work

 The students will be divided into two groups.

 The teacher present the situation below, let the students show that the events are mutually exclusive
events or not using Venn diagram.
Situation:
A card is drawn from a deck of cards. Events E1. E2,E3, E4, and E5 are defined as follows:
E1 Getting an 8
E2 Getting a King
E3 Getting a Face card
E4 Getting an Ace
E5 Getting a Heart

Group Task:
GROUP 1: E1 and E2 , E3 and E5
GROUP 2: E3 and E4, E2 and E5

 Present the rubrics.

Teamwork and All members All members cooperate Some members

Cooperation cooperated very well. well. cooperated little.

 Have a representative from each group to present their output.

 The teacher will give feedbacks after the presentation.

Generalization: “ JEOPARDY”

Mechanics:
1. Students will be divided into two groups.
2. Each group will select a representative to play with the other group’s representative.
3. Let a representative choose a number, then answer the question.
4. If the player’s answer is correct their group will get a point. But if the player’s answer is wrong, the
point will be given to the opponent’s group.
5. The group with the highest point will be declared as winner.

Questions:
Determine whether the situation given is mutually exclusive events or not mutually exclusive events.
1. Drawing a 5 and 8 in a standard deck of cards.
2. Getting a grade of 90 in Math and a grade of 90 in English.
3. A person works in works in the Philippines and a Pinay.
4. A person is watching TV and sleeping.
5. Rolling a fair die and getting an even number or a multiple of 6.
Values Integration: #QOTD
