CASE STUDY

COLD FIRE
Fire Stop Spray
(Combustion in Foam Layer)

Who: LAFARGE Emirates Cement

Where: Lafarge Workshop, Fujeirah

When: January 31, 2010

What : During welding activity, combustion occurred in the foam layer

insulation between the iron and the corrugated sheet.

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, fire is one of the reasons why factories are closing, why
most of the materials are wasted, why there are workers being injured
especially to those factories/workshops/plants who are working in an
environment where there are combustible materials around and doing
activities such as welding, etc.

And as technology arises, we are able to avoid phenomenon and top of

this is the fire or combustion, there are fire brigade teams, fire
fighters, fire extinguisher, fire stop spray and so many more.

Fires start when a flammable and/or a combustible material, in

combination with a sufficient quantity of an oxidizer such as oxygen
gas or another oxygen-rich compound (though non-oxygen oxidizers
exist that can replace oxygen), is exposed to a source of heat or
ambient temperature above the flash point for the fuel/oxidizer mix,
and is able to sustain a rate of rapid oxidation that produces a chain
reaction. In order to extinguish the fire, there are ways such as,
applying water, applying chemicals, that is avoiding fire to spread; or
completely cover the flame with any incombustible material. But based
on experience, there is one easy way to fight fire without the help of
any fire fighters, as the fire is still small, by using Bottled Fire stop
spray called cold fire.

Col Fire, a bottled fire stop spray is a handy fire extinguisher which
helps to collide fire molecules.

TESTIMONY

Situation

Roof door opening is a project being held in Lafarge Emirates Cement.

Welding is one of the main activities occurring. While welding roof door
frame, worker faced combustion in the foam insulation layer between
iron and corrugated sheet.

Environment

At the top of the workshop, the wind speed is 40m/s which helped the
fire to spread very quickly.

Action

In order to extinguish the fire, using Cold fire was the main choice.

Result:

After spraying, fire was completely gone within two seconds

Note:
The situation that we faced became simple, easy and fast with the help
of cold fire (fire stop spray) which implies that every worker who is
working with flammable materials must keep this product with him,
every time.
