DAILY LESSON LOG
Topic/Title Characteristics of Metals and Nonmetals

Grade Level Grade 7

Time Allotment 1 hour

Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the

distinguishing characteristics of metals and
nonmetals
Performance Standard Distinguish between metals and nonmetals based on
its electrical conductivity
Learning Competencies/ Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:

1. Investigate the electrical conductivity of different materials
2. Distinguish between metals and nonmetals based on its electrical conductivity

II. Content Which Can Conduct Electricity, Metals or Nonmetals?

III. Learning Resources

A. References

1. Teacher’s Guide pages pp.

2. Learner’s Module pages pp. 75-77

3. Textbook pages Science 7 Textbook

4. Additional materials from the Learning Resources (LR) portal

IV. Procedures Materials/Teacher’s tips/notes

A. Reviewing previous lesson or -

presenting the new lesson/ELICIT
Notes in their notebook
-Review on the basic characteristics of Metals and Nonmetals

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson/ENGAGE

- The teacher will introduce the activity “Which Can Conduct Activity sheet, book
Electricity, Metals or Nonmetals
- Prior to the activity, selected students were assigned to bring the
needed materials
- Discuss safety protocols to follow in conducting the experiment
which involves electricity.
C. Presenting examples/instances for the new lesson/EXPLORE

Using the ”conductivity apparatus, the teacher will facilitate Materials:

the conduct of the activity to ensure students safety, while the
Improvised Conductivity apparatus, copper wire, tin can,
students record their observations
aluminum, gold jewelry, silver jewelry, chalk, charcoal
- They will be guided by the following questions:
1. Which of the materials causes the bulb to light? How do
we classify this materials?
2. Which of the materials do not cause the bulb to light? How do
we classify this materials?

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills Activity sheet, paper ballpen
#1/EXPLAIN
Students will answer the guide questions in the activity

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills

#2/ELABORATE
- Buzz session Activity sheet

F. Developing mastery/ELABORATE
(Leads to Formative Assessment 3)
- Checking misconceptions Buzz session

G. Finding practical applications of

concepts and skills in daily
living/ELABORATE

Why do cooking utensils nowadays are made up of alloy instead of

clay pots
H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson.

Metals are conductors of electricity because they allow the passage

of electrical charges while nonmetals are insulators because they do
not allow electrical charges to flow.

I. Evaluating learning

The result of their activity will serve as evaluation.

J. Additional activities for application for remediation
