I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of projectile motion, impulse and momentum, and
conservation of linear momentum.

B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to propose ways to enhance sports related to projectile motion.

C. Learning Competencies Demonstrate what happens to the height and range of the S9FE-IVa.35.1
and Code projectile at different angles of release.

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the learners must be able to:
1. Show the relationship between height, range and angles of release in a projectile
motion.
2. Compare and contrast different angles of release and its resulting trajectories.
3. Apply knowledge in projectile motion to improve one’s goal in meeting goal
target.

IV. PROCEDURES

A. Review / Presenting New Elicit: Diagramatic Presentation-Naming Components

Lesson The teacher will post an illustration on the board where projectile motion is evident. The students will
(3 minutes) choose and match word/term that corresponds to the components of the projectile motion and post it on
the given illustration.

B. Establishing a Purpose of Engage: Video Presentation

Lesson The students will watch a short video presentation and the teacher will post questions related to the
(2 minutes) video such as:
1. How do you think they figured out where to put the pool?
C. Presenting instances of the new 2. What if someone heavier went down the slide? Would they still hit the target? What if
Lesson someone lighter went down the slide?
(5 minutes) 3. At what spot along the route was the person going fastest?
D. Discussing new concepts and Explore: Group Activity on Tracing Trajectory
practicing new skills #1 The teacher will group the students and they will demonstrate how height and range and velocity are
(15 minutes) being affected due to the different angle of release. Note that the group must take photos of their
activity to be presented in class.

Challenge: Using the marble or jackstone, launchers, discover what angle is needed to get the marble
to go the farthest.

Group 1: Group 2: Group 3 and Group 4:

Linear Horizontal Linear Motion Along Two-dimensional Motion Along an Incline
Motion an Inclined

Rubrics:
1. Evidences of the Projectile Motion (pictures or video)- 10 marks
2. Explanation (guide questions)- 10 marks
3. Presentation- 5 marks

E. Developing Mastery Explain: Group Presentation

(15 minutes) One to two representative per group must be able to explain their answer/work in front of the class
answering also the guide questions:
1. What angle is best for distance? How did you discover this?
2. What trajectories have similar ranges? Which trajectories have longer ranges?
3. What is the relationship of height/distance of dropped into its range?

F. Finding Practical application of Elaborate: Shoot That Ball

concepts and skills in daily 1 student per group will try to calculate the height and
living range of the target cans and their distance to the cans to
(5 minutes) be able to shoot/hit cans using a ball.

G. Making Generalization Elaborate: Emoticons True or False

(3 minutes) The teacher will going to post 5 concepts of the topic on
the board and the students will going to raise a happy or
sad emoticons if they agree or disagree on the given
statement.

H. Evaluation Evaluate: Multiple Choice

(8 minutes) 1. A cannon fires a shell at a fixed angle above the horizontal. Which one of the following quantities is the same
throughout the shell's flight? (Ignore the effects of air friction.)
a. Its speed c. Its velocity
b. Its acceleration d. Its vertical components of velocity
2. A projectile is fired at an angle of 45° above the horizontal. Assume that air resistance is not significant. While
the projectile is in flight, the horizontal component of the velocity remains constant.
a. True b. False
3. A body is projected downward at an angle of 30° with the horizontal from the top of a
building 170 m high. Its initial speed is 40 m/s. (a) How long will it take before striking the
ground? (b) How far from the foot of the building will it strike? (c) At what angle with the
horizontal will it strike?
a. (a) 8.3 s, (b) 0.084 km, (c) 90° c. (a) 3.1 s, (b) 0.086 km, (c) 30°
b. (a) 4.4 s, (b) 0.167 km, (c) 45° d. (a) 4.2 s, (b) 0.15 km, (c) 60°
4.A hose lying on the ground shoots a stream of water upward at an angle of 40° to the
horizontal. The speed of the water is 20 m/s as it leaves the hose. How high up will it strike a wall which is 8.0 m
away?
a. 5.36 m c. 6.71 m
b. 8.38 m d. 6.66 m
5. A ball is thrown upward at an angle of 30° to the horizontal and lands on the top edge
of a building that is 20 m away. The top edge is 5.0 m above the throwing point. How
fast was the ball thrown?
a. 11 m/s c. 16 m/s
b. 20 m/s d. 5230 m/s

I. Additional activities for Extend: Answer the following on your notebook Submission: Monday Compare the
Remediation range when firing with an angle of 30° with the range when firing
(2 minutes) with an angle of 60°. What do you notice?
