LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 9

Topic/Lesson Name: Special Properties of Right Triangles

Time frame: 1 hour
Date: August 8, 2022

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of parallelograms

and triangle similarity.
Performance Standard: The learner is able to investigate, analyze, and solve problems
involving parallelograms and triangle similarity through appropriate and accurate representation.

Learning Competencies:
1. Applies the similarity theorems to right triangles and discover some special relationships.
2. States, proves and applies the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse.
3. Recognizes and applies properties of some special triangles.

I. Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of special properties of right triangles.
2. Solve equations involving Pythagorean Theorem and special right triangles.
3. Appreciate the application of special properties of right triangles in real life situations.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Special Properties of Right Triangles

Our World of Math 9. Pg. 270-289

Materials: Laptop, PPT (PowerPoint Presentation)

III. Procedure
A. Preliminaries
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance and management of classroom.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Introduction
 Recall
The teacher will ask questions from the previous topic.
 Motivation
4 pics 1 word
In this game, the teacher will show the 4 different pictures. Students are given 5
seconds to identify the correct answer. The first student who will answer first will
receive a reward.
2. Activity
For starter, the teacher will give an activity that will help students to activate the
competencies or skills that they need to learn this particular way with ease.
I. Direction: Find the geometric mean of each pair of positive numbers.
1. 4, 10
2. 5, 15
II. Determine the distance P (3,2) and Q (-3, 6).
3.Analysis
The teacher will ask questions about the activity.
1. How did you find the geometric mean of a positive number?

2. How did you determine the distance between P (3,2) and Q (-3,6)?
Discussion

 The teacher will discuss and give examples about the similarity conditions for
right triangles, its theorems and some examples.
 The teacher will discuss and give examples about the Pythagorean theorem and
will give some examples.
 The teacher will discuss and give examples about the special right triangles and
will give some examples.
4.Abstraction
The teacher will ask students about what they had learned from these lessons.
1. What formula or prerequisite knowledge we need in order to determine the leg and
altitude of a right triangle?
2. What is one the famous equation in mathematics? How about its formula?
3. How can we determine if a triangle is acute? Obtuse? And right?
4. How can we determine if a right triangle is special?

5. Application
The teacher will divide the class into two groups. Each group will be given question/s
that they need to answer.

6. Assessment
The teacher will give a short quiz/activity to students and ask them to open their book
on page 288, A, B and D only.

7. Assignment
Teacher will ask students to answer the Olympiad Problems on their book that will
serve as their assignment.
