Peshawari Research:

A cross sectional study was conducted in Northwest General Hospital and Research
Centre, Peshawar in 2014. This study showed that out of 71 Pseudomonas isolates 28
were MDR, out of which7 were XDR, PDR was seen in3 of total MDR isolates. In vitro
antibiotic susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeroginosa showed highest sensitivity to
Amikacin (92.86%) followed by Meropenem (91.55%) and imipenem (91.43%) while
showing lowest sensitivity to Cefoparazone + Sulbactam (16.90%). Sensitivity to
Gentamicin was 74.65% and that of Ceftazidime was 71.01%. Highest resistance was
seen to Cefoperazone + Sulbactam (83.10%) and Piperacillin + Tazobactam (66.20%).
Nepali Research:
Astudy was carried out in 2012 at the Department of Microbiology, Kathmandu Medical
College Teaching Hospital inNepal. In this study the samples were collected from the
patients who were hospitalized from more than a week duration. Total 145 strains of
Pseudomonas aeroginosa were isolated and identified by standard microbiological
procedures. P.aeroginosa isolates showed maximum resistance to chloramphenicol
(72.41%) and the least resitance to amikacin (1117.25%). All isolates were sensitive to
the carbapenem drug –imipenem. The resistance pattern to various antibiotics tested
was in the order: chloramphenicol (72.41%) > ceftriaxone (68.96%) > piperacillin
(55.17%) > co-trimoxazole (51.72%), cefoperazone- sulbactam (34.48%) > ciprofloxacin
(27.59%) > amikacin (17.25%) > imipenem (0.0%). Multi-drug resisrance (resistance to
≥ 3 different classes of antibiotics tested) was shown by 30 (20.69%) of P.aeroginosa
isolates tested.
Karachi Research:
Another cross sectional study was conducted in Microbiology Department, University of
Karachi in 2012. In this study of 100 isolates 30 were found to be MDR Pseudomonas
aeroginosa. The maximum number of MDR P.aeroginosa were isolated from pus
samples (33.3%), followed by wound swabs (26.6%), bronchial fluid (23.3%), urine
(10%) and blood samples (6.6%). MDR P.aeroginosa highesr resistance was observed
against Cephalosporin group of antiobiotics. While, more than 50% of isolates subjected
to antimicrobial testing were found resistant to Piperacillin/ tazobactam. Around 40% of
isolates were resistant against Carbapenems. While 90% of the isolates were sensitive
to Amikacin.
