Air Pollution
Air Pollution
composition of air. Some air pollution is natural and has always been part of the earth's history.
However, over the past one hundred years or so, pollution created by humans has become a major
environmental problem. Air pollutants may be either emitted into the atmosphere (primary air
pollutants) or formed within the atmosphere itself (secondary air pollutants).

Major Environmental Issues:
Air Pollution: The emission of any impurity into the air such as smoke (including tobacco
smoke), dust, cinders, solid particles, gases, mists, fumes, odors, and radioactive substances.
This brings harm and discomfort to living things and destroys the environment. Air pollutants
come from various resources.
In 2018, the Philippines had 45.3 air pollution related deaths for every 100,000
people. The third highest in the world according to the World Health Organization
(WHO).
In 2020, the Philippines ranked 6th among Southeast Asian countries with most
polluted air.
Every year, around 7 million deaths are due to exposure from both outdoor and
household air pollution.
Solutions:
Should pursue policies to control more effectively air pollution resulting from
emissions of oxides of Sulphur and nitrogen, hydrocarbons, and particulate
matter, from stationary and mobile sources in their countries in order to
achieve environmentally acceptable levels of ambient air quality and
deposition of pollutant.
Should develop consistent emission control strategies on a regional or national
basis, and coordinated internationally where appropriate, which might include
emission standards for various categories of polluters, regional or national
emission ceilings, or other effective and effi cient means of reducing emission
levels.
Should co-operate to improve the availability and quality of data on air
pollutant emissions from different categories of polluters.
