Objectives: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Identify the different African musical instruments and their unique sounds.
2. Describe the different genres of African music.
3. Appreciate the importance of African music in cultural and historical contexts.

 Visual aids (charts, maps, and pictures)
 Handouts
 Whiteboard and markers

Procedures:

I. Preparation A. Greetings and checking of attendance B. Brief review of the previous


lesson on the basic elements of music

II. Discussion A. Introduction to African music and its cultural significance B. Discussion
of the different African musical instruments and their unique sounds C. Description of
the different genres of African music D. Use of audio and video recordings to support
the discussion E. Use of visual aids to help students understand the discussion better

III. Activity A. Group activity: Students will form groups and choose a genre of African
music to research and present to the class. B. Individual activity: Students will create a
reflection paper about the importance of African music in cultural and historical
contexts.

IV. Assessment A. Group presentation of their research about a genre of African music B.

Students will choose a musical instrument used in African music and create a short
