Course and Year: Laboratory No.: 5

Title: Erosion and Sedimentation Data

Objectives:

1. To be able to solve problems on soil loss.

2. To define and familiarize the terms used in erosion and sedimentation data.
3. To determine factors that influence sedimentation and give different soil erosion
practices.

Laboratory activity:

I. Answer the following questions.

1. What is soil erosion? How does it differ from sedimentation?

2. What are the factors that influences soil erosion and sedimentation?
3. Enumerate the characteristic forms of erosion.
4. Differentiate gully from rill erosion.
5. What is sediment delivery ratio? How does it relate to the catchment size?
6. What are the factors that influences sedimentation?
7. Give the different soil erosion practices. Cite an example of each practices.
8. Determine the soil loss for an area with strip cropping practices. The conditions are:
I = 400
K = 0.12 t/a
y = 600 ft
s = 15 percent
C = 0.18
9. Give the different methods of field measurements of sediments. Differentiate each method.
10. What is instantaneous sediment discharge measurement. How is the procedure carried out?
