GREETINGS

SLIDE 1

For this month of October we are actually celebrating the 28th National Statistics Month. The theme for
the 28th National Statistics Month, “Facts and Figures for the Future: Statistics for Evidence-Based
Decisions Towards AmBisyon Natin 2040”, reflects the important role of reliable statistics and factual
information in determining appropriate strategies in tracking our progress towards AmBisyon Natin
2040 where all Filipinos are envisioned to enjoy a matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay.

To ensure the sustained production and dissemination of statistics which are necessary for the
achievement of the Filipino aspirations, statistical activities and programs as identified in the Philippine
Statistical Development Program (PSDP) shall be implemented and monitored. These statistics will serve
as the evidence needed by policy- and decision-makers in pursuing “bold visions and effective
development planning based on forward-looking approach that goes beyond a single administration.

Seventy nine percent of Filipinos aspire for a simple and comfortable life.

In the news release of NEDA’s "Ambisyon Natin 2040" survey found in its website, the results reveal that
majority of the 10,000 Filipino respondents prefer a simple and comfortable life. Only a small segment
of respondents wanted an affluent or well-off life (16.9 percent), while 3.9 percent of them wanted to
be rich.

SLIDE 4

Filipinos define a simple and comfortable life as follows:

 Having enough earnings to support everyday needs

 Having a medium-sized home
 Owning at least one car/vehicle
 The capacity to provide college education for their children
 Going on local trips for vacation

SLIDE 5

Majority of Filipinos want to work at home rather than abroad.

Eighty eight percent of the respondents of the survey want jobs to be located in the Philippines by the
year 2040, while 69 percent of Filipinos prefer a job at home instead of a job abroad if given a choice.

Region I’s population increased at the rate of 1.09% annually

SLIDE 7

Based on the 2015 Census of Population released by the Philippine Statistics Authority last September
28, 2017, the region posted a total population of 5,026,128. This was larger by 277,756 persons
compared to its total population of 4,748,372 counted in the 2010 Census of Population and Housing.
The increase in population count from 2010 to 2015 translated to an average annual population growth
rate of 1.09 percent. This was lower than the 1.23 percent annual population growth rate between the
census years 2000 and 2010.

If the average annual population growth rate recorded at 1.09 percent during the period 2010 to 2015
continues, the population of the region would double in 65 years.

Temperatures are breaking records around the world.

The 21st century has seen the most temperature records broken in recorded history. 2016 was the
hottest year on record since 1880, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA), with average temperatures measuring 1.78 degrees Fahrenheit (0.99 degrees Celsius) warmer
than the mid-20th century mean. This makes 2016 the third year in a row to set a new record for global
average surface temperatures. Since the 1950s, every continent has warmed substantially.
