Curriculum

2. Munting Tinig
3. Captain Fantastic

Questions:
1. Describe the movie in terms of the curriculum being used by the teacher or the school.

 The Curriculum being utilized by the main character to his offspring is describe as primitive and radical, it
primarily centered in teaching them how to live in the jungle and indoctrinate ideologies that contradicts
the right wings of America. The materials encompasses subversive ideas about the reality, wherein it
affects how they view the society and it’s countrymen. It is an advance learning bounded by rules and
patterns, that are not practiced by a normal school, there is no sequence in learning, for instance teaching
them the basic to complex skills or knowledge haven’t follow. The learning are somewhat inappropriate on
their age, since the young boy, was already taught about sexuality and legislation, which divulge that the
methods of teaching and instruction is two-edge, partly good and bad, as it advocates advance learning,
however, it supports the idea of being leftist.

2. What educational philosophy are the beliefs and practices shown in the movie anchored with? Why do you
say so?

 The Educational Philosophy and beliefs embedded in the movie is the notion of rigorous physical training
and scholastic intelligence as a proper method of educating, which distinctly underpin the dogma of
Socialism. In the socialistic theory of education, "work" or "activity" is the bottom line and must lead to
further activity. Learning becomes largely a matter of doing with experience considered the only means of
acquiring knowledge. The father does not only teach his children the basics of education but trains their
minds to discern complexities and formulate their perspectives. He does not define Education as simply
knowing how to read and write and keep common accounts, in his practice, it divulges that education for
him is the ability to be robust and vigor, to be critical and elite. To become an intellectual, experience and
real-life situations are necessary to address the needs of students and familiarize them with actual learning.
His perspective on education was as well considered Idealist since he primarily believe in his vision of
education, which was guided by his fanatic leftist ideology and communist thinking.
3. How effective is the curriculum in the attainment of the goals of education as explicated in the movie?
What is your overall impression of the movie?

 The development of the children is highly proficient, they have mastered the skill of being critical and
kinesthetic, which is an ideal intelligence in education. Thus, the curriculum is effective in providing a
balanced education to children, considering the instruction of the father on how he utilizes strategies that
make his children better understand the subjects and allow them to formulate their interpretations and ideas
using the existing knowledge that they possess. However, although it is advisable and admirable, there
were still loopholes shown in the curriculum, as it is embedded with the personal interest of the father in
teaching his children to live in isolation and think of society as corrupted, the consequence was, the
children are unable to adapt in the dramatic changes of the society, they have difficulties in understanding
the outside and have been educated that the world is guided by capitalism. It is not an effective curriculum,
albeit, the children are a prodigy, they still lack ethical behavior and knowledge of their environment. They
know something but they don’t know everything, it is difficult to educate a child who doesn’t have an
interest in learning, however, it is regrettable if we feed them the knowledge that can adversely affect their
thinking and life since it will take time to alter what they already considered as right. Currently, the
curriculum is partly ineffective since the 21st century is rooting for, critical, creative, innovative, and
technology-driven skills, which divulges that the curriculum is far from the standards of New education
since they were most inclined to primitive and radical education.
