LESSON PLAN
Mathematics X

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 80% of the students shall be able to:
a. Differentiate a geometric sequence from an arithmetic sequence
b. Identify a geometric sequence from an arithmetic sequence
c. Show enthusiasm in performing the assigned tasks
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Geometric Sequence
References: Math 10 Module
Instructional Materials: TV, PowerPoint, Flash Cards, Black Board, Chalk
Values Integration: Participation, Enthusiasm

III. Learning Procedure

Review: The students will recapitulate their previous lesson which is about finding
the nth term of a geometric sequence.

Motivation: Sequence Auctions

Auctions is the process where members of the group speak out in higher numbers
to buy an entity. In this activity, the students make auctions to win rewards at the
end. To start with, the teacher procures a gift or something as a reward. The
instructor asks to make an auction for this reward with a geometric sequence, with
a certain common ratio. Now, the students grab the chance to reckon numbers and
make calls as a try to win the reward. The one with the largest number at the end
wins the auction and the gift. For example, if the common ratio is 2, then the
teacher says 4 to start. Then, one student raises their hand, saying 8, then the
other says 16, and so on. The one with the largest number is the winner.

Activity: The activity is to be done in two groups. The teacher will explain the
mechanics of the activity. The representatives of each group will show their
answers on the board.
Group 1
Problem: On day one, 8 students enrolled at Mateo Libo-on National High School.
There were 16 students who registered on day two, 32 students on day three, and
so on.
a) How many students will enroll on the 7th day?
b) Complete the table below.
Day 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Number
of 8 16 32
Students

Group 2
Problem: Asher is keen to grow tomatoes in his backyard. He plants 6 seeds on day
one, 13 seeds on day two, 20 seeds on day three, and so on.
a) How many seeds will Asher plant on the 8th day?
b) Complete the table below.
Day 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Number 6 13 20
of Seeds
Analysis:
a. Presentation of the answers per group.
b. Ask further questions:
i. How did you get the answer to each problem?
ii. What type of sequence is the work of Group 1? Group 2?
iii. What is the difference between the two sequences?

Abstraction:
a. Proceed to the lesson
i. Ask the students to differentiate arithmetic from geometric sequence.
ii. Discuss the definition and concepts of arithmetic and geometric
sequence.
A geometric sequence is a sequence in which a term is obtained by
multiplying the preceding term by a constant number, called the
common ratio, r. while an arithmetic sequence is a sequence in which
each term after the first is obtained by adding a constant d to the
preceding term. The constant number d is called the common
difference.

Application: Using Flash Cards, the students will identify whether the sequence is
Arithmetic or Geometric.

IV. Evaluation
(Refer to the Worksheet attached)

V. Agreement:
The students will cite a word problem involving sequences and illustrate their answers
through a table. (5 pts)
