    Riley eats lunch alone in the school-hallway again. A short,


    condescending, TEACHER appears. She is MRS. PEETZ, 50s.

    MRS. PEETZ
    You can’t eat in the hallway.

    RILEY
    Oh, hello! My names’s Riley Cox,
    I’m a new Sophomore -

    MRS. PEETZ
    You can’t eat here.

    RILEY
    Sorry?

    MRS. PEETZ
    It’s a detention.

    RILEY
    What’s a detention?

    MRS. PEETZ
    If you eat another bite, you’ll
    have to do your homework under
    teacher-supervision in the library
    during your sixth period. Today.

    RILEY
    Hmm. Well, I guess I’ll just take
    the detention. This is where I feel
    comfortable to eat lunch, and the
    detention sounds pretty productive.

    MRS. PEETZ
    Huh. Do you know who I am?
    RILEY
    No, I tried to make your acquaintance
    earlier but you cut me off-
    MRS. PEETZ
    I’m Mrs Peetz. The Principal. And
    you must be Mr. Remarkably Rude.
    RILEY
    (genuine)
    Oh no, Ma’am! I’m not Mr. Rude!
    Really! I’m real friendly...would
    you like a bite of tuna?
    He offers her a bite of his sandwich.
