MEMORY VERSE CHALLENGE 2023 
 
GENERAL GUIDELINES 
 The first fifteen verses are from their Sunday School textbooks. 
 The following fifteen verses are hand‐picked from the Bible according to their age. 
 The memory verse challenge will occur in their respective Sunday School sessions. 
 Prizes will be awarded only for the top three positions; however, you would need a minimum of 
50% marks to qualify for the award. 
  
GUIDELINES: JUNIOR – INTERMEDIATE ‐SENIOR – YOUNG ADULT 
 
1. Mode of Exam: Written 
2. Time: 15 minutes  
3. The student will need to complete ten memory verses. The student must answer the memory verse 
asked during the challenge. The verse's beginning or ending words will be mentioned as a hint to 
complete the memory verse.  
4. There will be two rounds of challenge for the same memory verses, and the marks will be 
considered cumulatively for the prizes.

1  All Scripture is God‐breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and  2 Timothy 3:16‐17 
training in righteousness, so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped 
for every good work. 
2  In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in  Hebrews 1:1‐2 
various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he 
appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 
3  For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the  Romans 15:4 
endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might 
have hope. 
4  “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.  Proverbs 30:5 
5  Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the  2 Peter 1:20‐21 
prophet’s own interpretation of things.  For prophecy never had its origin in the human 
will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the 
Holy Spirit. 
6  But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never‐failing stream!  Amos 5:24 
7  But on Mount Zion will be deliverance; it will be holy, and Jacob will possess his  Obadiah v17 
inheritance. 
8  When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented  Jonah 3:10 
and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened. 
9  He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you? To  Micah 6:8 
act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. 
10  The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,  Nahum 1:7 
11  For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters  Habakkuk 2:14 
cover the sea. 
12  Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek  Zephaniah 2:3 
righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s 
anger. 
13  This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the  Haggai 1:7‐8 
mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it 
and be honoured,” says the Lord. 
14  “This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and  Zechariah 7:9‐10 
compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner 
or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other 
15  Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have  Malachi 3:7 
not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. 
16  Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and  Philippians 2:14‐15 
pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you 
will shine among them like stars in the sky 
17  Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of  Romans 12:2 
your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, 
pleasing and perfect will. 
18  For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and  1 Peter 3:10‐11 
their lips from deceitful speech. 11 They must turn from evil and do good; they must

19  But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in  2 Corinthians 12:9  
weakness." Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that 
Christ's power may rest on me.   
20  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the  James 3:6 
whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 
21  but let the one who boasts boast about this:  that they have the understanding to  Jeremiah 9:24 
know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness on 
earth, for in these I delight," declares the Lord. 
22  I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my  Psalm 18:1‐2   
God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my 
stronghold.  
23  The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You  Romans 13:9 
shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are 
summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” 
24  See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of  1 John 3:1 
God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not 
know him. 
25  For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness,  2 Peter 1:5‐7 
knowledge; and to knowledge, self‐control; and to self‐control, perseverance; and to 
perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, 
love. 
26  "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that  John 15:1‐2   
bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even 
more fruitful". 
27  But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I  Ruth 1:16 
will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my 
God. 
28  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I  Galatians 2:20   
live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for 
me. 
29  But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not  John 16: 13   
speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to 
come. 
30  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with  Philippians 4:6‐7 
thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends 
all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
