SETTINGS
Principal photography began in July 2012 in Detroit. On August 13, 2012, shooting moved to
Rochester, Michigan, two weeks after filming wrapped in Detroit. It was also filmed in Oakland
Charter Township, Oakview Middle School and Oakland University.
PLOT
BEGINNING
RISING ACTION
In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught
of tornadoes. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as
storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run
towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot.
CLIMAX
In the middle of Tornado Alley in the small town of Silverton, Oklahoma, multiple storm
paths are about to converge. A documentary crew is tracking the storms, local adventure-
seekers want to put themselves into the danger zone, and a widowed school principal with
two teenage sons is planning the graduation ceremony. When a storm hits, this diverse
group of people must come together balancing their personal goals and the safety of
themselves and others. But there are more storms on the horizon, and told from the point
of view of those witnessing it, these storms prove to be far greater than ever experienced
putting all their lives in danger.
FALLING ACTION
At the mill, the two trapped students attempt to use their phones to call for help, but the storm's
devastation has rendered the phones almost useless. To make matters worse, a water pipe abruptly
breaks and begins to flood the hole in which the two are trapped. Injured and at risk of drowning, the
two record messages for their loved ones, then prepare for the worst. At the last minute, Gary and
Allison arrive and successfully free the two students.
ENDING
It is graduation day in the town of Silverton and the sons of the vice-principal Gary, Donnie
and Trey, are responsible for filming the ceremony. However, Donnie has a crush on his
mate Kaitlyn (Alycia Debnam Carey) and he has the chance to go with her to an abandoned
chemical facility to help her in an assignment, leaving his brother alone. Meanwhile the
storm tracker Pete is advised by his meteorologist Allison to head to Silverton where a
tornado will probably appear. Pete needs to prepare footage of tornado for the producer and
he drives his truck Titus with the cameraman Jacob followed by the equipped van with
Allison, the driver Daryl and Lucas to film the tornado. However, several erratic tornadoes
arrive in the town and seem that there is not no safe shelter to protect the inhabitants of
Silverton.
LESSON LEARNED
When facing off against an angry tornado, fear'll get you killed. We
experience storms in every area of our lives: mental, physical,
emotional, and spiritual. These are times when the weather changes
unexpectedly and our usual patterns of behavior are disrupted by
circumstances beyond our control. God sends the storms to encourage
growth. Storms are designed to do many important things in our lives.
They teach us valuable lessons about ourselves, others, and the lives we
have created.

Other locations would be in Costa Rica, Utah and Northern California. Shyamalan also visited
Valley Forge Military Academy, the filming location of Taps, for research of the film, then
entitled After Earth, as Jaden Smith would be playing a military cadet of the future.
PLOT
BEGINNING
A crash landing leaves Kitai Raige and his father Cypher stranded on Earth, a millennium
after events forced humanity's escape. With Cypher injured, Kitai must embark on a
perilous journey to signal for help.
RISSING ACTION
One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape from Earth, Nova
Prime has become mankind's new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige returns from an
extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son,
Kitai. When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai's craft, they crash-land on a now
unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek
across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted
nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.
CLIMAX
During flight, however, their spaceship is caught by an asteroid shower forcing them to crash-land on
the now-quarantined Earth. Both of Cypher's legs are broken, and the main beacon for firing a
distress signal is damaged. Cypher instructs Kitai to locate the tail section of the ship, which broke
off on entry to the atmosphere. Inside is the backup beacon which they can use to signal Nova
Prime. Cypher gives Kitai his weapon, a wrist communicator and six capsules of a fluid that
enhances the oxygen intake so he can breathe in Earth's low-oxygen atmosphere. Cypher warns
him to avoid the highly evolved fauna and flora, and be careful of violent thermal shifts. Kitai leaves
to find the tail section, with Cypher guiding him through the communicator. [citation needed]
FALLING ACTION
Kitai is attacked by giant monkeys and, during his escape, is bitten by a poisonous leech. Kitai
administers the antidote, but two of his capsules are damaged and his nervous system shuts down.
When Kitai awakens, he narrowly escapes a thermal shift. Kitai lies to Cypher, not informing him of
the damaged capsules. That night, Kitai listens to Cypher tell him a story of when he was attacked
by an Ursa, how he realized that fear is merely an illusion created by the mind's thoughts of the
future, and thus he first began to "ghost" himself from the Ursas, choosing to live rather than to let
his enemies, both fear and the Ursas, decide his fate.
ENDING
In the future, Earth becomes inhabitable and mankind moves to Nova Prime. However,
aliens try to conquer Nova Prime but are defeated by the Rangers under the command of
General Cypher Raige. The aliens bring the predator Ursas to hunt down the humans
attracted by their fear and Raige develops the fearless ghosting technique to defeat them.
On the same day that Raige returns home, his estranged son Kitai Raige is not advanced to
the Ranger position in the academy. Raige promises his wife that he will travel in his last
assignment before retirement and she convinces him to bring Kitai with him. When their
spacecraft is damaged by an asteroid storm, she crashes on Earth and only Raige and Kitai
survive. Raige breaks both legs and Kitai needs to cross the hostile and dangerous planet to
retrieve the beacon and save their lives.
OTHER PLOT
Because Cypher’s legs were broken in the crash, it is Kitai who must
make the journey alone across treacherous terrain through a deadly
environment and past dangerous creatures. But while Kitai must go
alone, he is not without help.
Cypher uses technology that allows him to keep track of his son and
see his surroundings. He is aware of threats before Kitai encounters
them, and can warn him when he is about to be attacked by the
planets various dangerous creatures.
Kitai doesn’t always listen to his father. His headstrong attitude leads
him to make poor choices, putting him in harm’s way on more than
one occasion. There are other factors that add stress to their
relationship, and Kitai’s confidence is rattled by a perception that his
father doesn’t believe in him.
LESSON LEARNED
Danger is real, but fear is a choice. You can become the master of an event, the creator of
a moment, even if it seems overwhelming, if you've absorbed the wisdom of people who
lived through similar tests and told you how they survived them.
