Method: Inquiry Training Model
Assumed Knowledge of Students:
Students are familiar with the topic “Environment”.

Course Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to;
 Identify and describe the basic parts of a plants. 
 Describe what parts of plants works for.

Materials:
 Smartboard,
 Marker,
 Video,
 Fruits, Vegetables, and other parts of plants.

DIY Activity:
 2 White roses
 2 Tubes of food coloring (different colors)
 2 Clear glass cups
 1 Pair of scissors (adults only)
 1 Large container of water
 1 Spoon for stirring

Teacher comes to class and gives a brief information about the topic.
Teacher explains the parts of a plant (Roots, Leaves, Seeds, Flowers,
Fruit, Stems). Later, the teacher asks students how do plants grow and
Introduction what they need to grow. Then the teacher asks students simple
questions about plants. For example;
Warm-up
 What part of the plant could this be?
(15 min.)  How do you think plants grow?

 What do plants need to grow?
 Where do plants grow?

The teacher creates a six-column chart: Roots, Leaves, Seeds,


Flowers, Fruit, Stems (Appendix A). Then the students make a gruop
of three and the teacher gives one part of a plant to each group. (One
Main Activity
group gets a root, one group gets a leave, one group gets a fruit, etc.).
(20 min.) Students make observations. Each group tries figure out which part of
the plant they have. After that, each group tells which part they have
and what does it do. Students make suggestions and predictions about
what that part of the plant works for. The teacher can also help
students with some guiding questions.
 What does the leaf do?
 Where does the plant get water from?

Post-Activity Teacher opens a video about parts of a plant (Appendix A). So that
students find out if their predictions were true. After the video is
finished, the teacher asks students the parts of the plant again. Each
(15 min.) student gives at least one sentence about what they learn. Students
discuss what does these parts work for and finally students will be
able to describe the parts of a plant.

To complete the learning process, the teacher conducts a small


Closing experiment with the students. The teacher pours water into two glasses
DIY Activity and cuts a rose in half from its stem. He puts one end of the stem into
one glass and the other end into the other glass. Adds different colors

to glasses. In the next lesson they will see how the rose changes color.
