using appropriate reading strategies

Learning Standard:
3.2.3 i) Use visuals on the page to help understand a word or phrase
ii) Identify and remember high frequency sound and letter patterns

Learning 1. Read the names of the basic shapes, using correct pronunciation.
Objectives 2. Draw objects that resemble the shapes learned.
Success Criteria 1. Read using the correct pronunciation of at least four out of six basic
shapes.
2. Draw at least one object that resembles the six shapes learned.
Activity 1. Pupils watch a video of a song entitled “Dance with Shapes” once and the
next time, they dance together.
2. Pupils are asked the shapes that they listen from the song.
3. Pupils then are shown seven basic shapes.
Example: circle, triangle, square, oval, rectangle, diamond.
4. Pupils spell and pronounce the words together.
5. Pupils play the game ‘Spell-It-Right’ and spell the words correctly.

7. Pupils are given a worksheet where they need to draw objects that
resemble the shapes that have been learned.
Example : triangle – pizza
circle – cookie
square – clock
8. Pupils share their drawings to their friends in front of the class.

Learning 1. Rearrange the names of the shapes


Objectives 2. Draw a house by applying the shapes.

Success Criteria 1. Rearrange at least four of the six words of shapes correctly.
2. Draw a house by using at least four shapes from the six learned.

Activity 1. Pupils dance to the song “Dance with Shapes” together.


2. Pupils are asked to recall the shapes that they listen from the song and
previous lesson.
3. Pupils then are given one worksheet where they need to rearrange into
correct form of word.
Example: circle, triangle, square, oval, rectangle, diamond.
4. Pupils check the answers together with teacher.
5. Pupils are given another worksheet.
6. Pupils utilize the shapes learned to create a house drawing.
7. Pupils share their drawings to their friends in front of the class.

Success Criteria 1. Draw at least four objects out of six of the shapes learned.
2. Create a 3-dimensional house from the craft items.
Activity 1. Pupils watch a video of a song entitled “Dance with Shapes” once and the
next time, they dance together.
2. Pupils are asked to recall the shapes that they listen from the song.
3. Pupils then are given a worksheet that they need to draw the objects that
looks like the shapes given.
4. Pupils share their work.
5. Pupils are shown another video to create a house using felt material.
6. Pupils cut the fabric into different shapes and sizes.
7. Pupils are given time to finish the craft.
8. Pupils share their end products to their friends in front of the class.
