Human resources are uniquely positioned to assist organizations with strategic planning,

as the success of strategic plans is contingent on effective human resource allocation. HR can

assist other departments in identifying and clarifying their mission, long-term objectives, and

strategies for achieving those objectives. (Jathan Janove, 2020)

HR strategic planning entails identifying and mitigating HR operational and talent risks

that impede the execution of strategic priorities. It refers to how HR leaders prioritize and

allocates resources to HR initiatives to prepare for business risks and opportunities. This involves

aligning business and HR strategies, defining priorities relative to crucial business initiatives, and

adjusting execution as business conditions change. HR leaders frequently require assistance with

developing a business case for the HR strategic planning of specific initiatives for the upcoming

year or allocating resources between multiple ongoing projects. (GARTNER Human Resource,

2023)

What are the four strategies for human resources?

 Limit transactional problem-solving.

 Be proactive as opposed to reactive.

 Provide people-centric solutions to large-scale challenges.

 Connect individuals who can resolve one another's problems.

(ADP Inc., 2023)

Six forecasts for the beginning of the next decade and strategies for staying ahead of

the curve. As baby boomers retire, the digital revolution continues. It is still early enough to

begin planning for the next decade.

1. New Generations Will Assume Control

By 2030, all Baby Boomers will be at least 65 years old. As most of them leave the

workforce, Generation Z (those born in 1997 or later) will replace them. Boomers entered the

workforce during a time of hierarchical cultures when work was the sole focus of a position.

Members of Generation Z, on the other hand, are demanding that their companies speak out on

issues such as the environment and diversity, equity, and inclusion. This has prompted

companies to take on activist roles, although this can be challenging, particularly with divisive

issues. (Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), 2022)

2. Digital Training Will Become Required

According to the 2022 Talent Trends Report from SHRM Research, more than half of

HR professionals (53 percent) have observed at least one essential skill or knowledge gap among

applicants over the past year. The most frequently cited was a lack of basic computer skills

(35%). According to Korn Ferry, 85 million jobs will go unfilled worldwide by 2030 due to a

need for more qualified workers. Developing these skills internally is a matter of self-

preservation for businesses. (Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), 2022)

3. People-Oriented Departments Will Evolve

No, that is not the Human Resources department. Keahn Gary, a senior manager and

innovation and disruption strategist at Cognizant, a global IT services and consulting firm

headquartered in Los Angeles, describes a new team focusing on employees' lived experience

and development. Consequently, why isn't that a job for HR? Gary states that, in its current state,

HR serves to protect the company. "Their mission is more along the lines of 'How do we

generate employment?' than 'How do we generate work?'" (Society for Human Resource

Management (SHRM), 2022)

4. Teamwork Will Be the New Game Strategy

Scrums, sprints, and squads will become commonplace as employers recruit employees

to work on projects throughout and outside the organization. Mazor states, "We are moving away

from hierarchical work structures and incorporating people into these newer structures." The new

organizational structure necessitates HR reconceive incentive programs and performance

reviews, as employees may no longer report to their usual supervisors. For instance, Zimmerman

states that she abandoned annual performance reviews in favor of continuous employee

supervisor feedback. This strategy is more effective in a project-based environment. (Society for

Human Resource Management (SHRM), 2022)

5. Robots Will perform more Work, But Humans Will Not Be Left Behind.

According to SHRM Research's 2021 Workplace Automation Survey, 42 percent of HR

professionals say their organization plans to continue using, expanding, or developing workplace

automation over the next five years. Both company-wide and within the HR department,

repetitive tasks will be taken over by automation and artificial intelligence as they evolve.

Machines can sort through piles of resumes and manage payroll, among other tasks. This allows

HR professionals to focus on more exciting tasks, such as strategic planning. (Society for Human

Resource Management (SHRM), 2022)

6. Phygital Will Become the New Standard

Companies discovered, during the pandemic, that many employees, particularly

knowledge workers, could be productive while working from home. According to an SHRM

survey conducted in April, nearly half of all U.S. workers (48 percent) are interested in working

remotely for their next position. "Hybrid work is here to stay," Meister says. "It is a benefit. It

has been in existence for two and a half years. Try taking a perk away." (Society for Human

Resource Management (SHRM), 2022)
