END OF FIRST SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS
MACR 617 ADVANCED COMMUNICATION RESEARCH: THEORIES,
CONCEPTS AND METHODS.
Examiners: Drs. Albert-James S. Tayman, Stanley Sermaco AND Lawrencia Agyepong

INSTRUCTIONS:
You are required to formulate a full research proposal to conduct a study based on a topic
of your choice within the field of Media and Communication Research. The proposal, in not
more than Three Thousand words, and must include:
1. An adequately formulated title. (3 Marks)
2. A discursive background to define key ideas and concepts relating to the problem,
an explanation and situating of the problem, a problem statement, and a presentation
of general research aims and objectives and key research questions. It should also
have a preliminary review of key and related literature, a construction of an adequate
theoretical or conceptual framework, and a rationalization for the study. (30 Marks)
3. It should adopt and defend a preferred research stance from a chosen metaphysical
position with consequent paradigmatic and/axiological positioning, an adequately
constructed research design for executing the study and a risk assessment of
attendant ethical issues along with a suitable mitigation plan. (10 Marks)
4. Construct an adequate instrument to collect required data, with explanatory notes
to justify the structure and data points included in the instrument. (10 Marks)
5. Supply an estimated budget and schedule for the conduct of the study. (7 Marks)
6. Your term paper MUST be submitted, as a hard copy, on 21/04/23 between 4 –
7pm, and the same paper MUST be emailed to acrtcmgij@gmail.com by 7pm on the
same day. Late submissions of ANY of these documents after 7pm will not be
accepted and your participation will be marked ABSENT.
